Print Story Where do you do your dinnertimin'?

I typically eat at my desk, sweating with stress while trying to stay ahead of a flood of documents, but some people have other approaches.

No need to dress up? No tippin' tipping? Maybe it's time that I give this Scottish-American eatery a try.

The evening meal? by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #1 Tue Nov 05, 2013 at 12:03:55 PM EST
At home around the table, 95% of the time.

If you're talking the noontime meal, in my cube.

that's what i've been doing lately by gzt (4.00 / 1) #2 Tue Nov 05, 2013 at 02:40:40 PM EST
actually, recently, i've done more mcdonald's dinnertimin' that i'd like to admit. they're right down the road and have been expanding their "high-grade fast food" selections.

popeye's was my go-to for shameful dinnertimin' by nathan (4.00 / 1) #3 Tue Nov 05, 2013 at 03:07:03 PM EST
But these days it's typically random delivery places that work with Seamless.

Meal with my family? Maybe in 10 years, or after I'm dead.

there are some pretty awesome bad mexican by the mariner (4.00 / 1) #12 Tue Nov 05, 2013 at 07:50:15 PM EST
places in chicago. i had some friends who lived in chicago like ten years ago and liked this really awesome bad mexican place in lakeview east. it was near belmont a few blocks from the lake. don't remember what street though. it was basically a counter, a skillet, one of those rice milk (porchata?) machines and like three tables.

their chimichangas really gave you that sensation of your life force draining away, what kundera calls "little death," i think. i don't know if it's still there. only bad mexican i've seen better than that was in bowery.

oh man, i think it's still there. by the mariner (4.00 / 1) #14 Tue Nov 05, 2013 at 08:44:42 PM EST
corner of north broadway and barry st, i think, west side of the street. if you have the means (and i know that you do), i recommend a visit. lol.

this place? by gzt (4.00 / 1) #15 Tue Nov 05, 2013 at 09:38:28 PM EST
yeah, i think so. by the mariner (4.00 / 1) #16 Tue Nov 05, 2013 at 09:41:12 PM EST
it was a long time ago, but it's the right look and general area/side of the street. pretty sure that's it. the neighborhood is almost unrecognizable -- it was gentrified way back then, but now it's ridiculous. that place still looks as ghetto as ever though.

Though lunch is usually cafeteria system so we have to fetch our own place setting...
