Print Story from the atlantic

as i've written elsewhere, i let my subscription lapse in 2007 or so because of their ridiculous britney spears cover. the general direction of the magazine in the meantime has vindicated my decision, i'd say. if anything i hung on too long.

but a link:

i kind of like james fallows, but not so much that i go out of my way to read his stuff.

i don't know what to make of this post. is this a genuine goofball who managed to get fallows to post his stupid ass emails for over a year by claiming to have plans to close his business over the 2012 election? or is fallows just getting trolled by someone who's done a minimal amount of homework -- if so, well done.

oh, and why not an impromptu fermented beverage review?

tonight, victory's golden monkey, belgian tripel:

a crystal clear, pilsner like golden color. well carbonated. a ginger, even over-cautious, pour yields considerable white-to-light straw colored head, which settles promptly. some lacing.

aroma is spicy -- cloves, faint citrus and banana. light body, dry and quite smooth. flavor is dominated by spicy notes of cloves and maybe a bit of coriander.

deceptively alcoholic. a couple 12 oz's and star trek: enterprise almost seems like a worthwhile thing to watch on netflix. (wife's out of town, didn't feel like spending 50 usd getting drunk with old grad school buddies -- though in retrospect, i should've.)

it's an okay tripel. considerably less character than other favorite examples of the style, notably unibroue's la fin du monde. for what i paid, i'd've rather picked up a more upscale tripel or "quadrupel" (whatever that's supposed to be) 750ml, but whatever. not bad, but nothing too special.

I'm thinking about maybe trying the New Yorker.

But not enough to make me subscribe.

but polling data suggests approximately 28% of americans are white supremacists or something similar, so i felt compelled to offer "TNC" as an option. otherwise, imagine how many "WIPOs" i'd be getting...

Objectism verses altruism by Orion Blastar (2.00 / 2) #5 Mon Oct 21, 2013 at 05:01:17 PM EST
that is the clear conflict here with this "Atlas Shrugged" stuff.

Neither objectism not altruism seems to work, what are the alternatives?
