A ruby ring? That's pretty cool and different.

Congrats!

Yep, she preferred a ruby to a diamond. The ring is "rose gold", a pinkish alloy of gold and copper that she likes (she's got some old family jewellery in it).

There are many reasons to prefer ruby by fluffy (4.00 / 1) #32 Thu May 24, 2012 at 12:09:38 PM EST
and you are awesome for abiding that.

A friend of mine wrote a pretty good article about why he bought his then-fiancee a sapphire ring, and most of it had to do with the shady business practices that DeBeers engages in to promote false scarcity and premature devaluation, not to mention the looming question of "blood diamonds" and the fact that diamonds are, frankly, played-out already.

(They are divorced now but it has nothing to do with the ring.)

Thankfully Girl B is whatever the opposite of a Bridezilla is (a Bridezooky?) and wants an absolutely minimal wedding. Which suits me perfectly, the less wedding stress the better.
