Inside - whom did Breaker lend his vote to in the recent[1] London Mayoral Elections?

[1] Yes I know, and I did promise an update at the end of that week.

Our ever omniscient godloving snail chap got it bang on the button - heart said UKIP, head said Boris.

I held my nose for the both votes; UKip are doing an appalling job of promoting themselves as a serious political party with a filled out manifesto; most just write them off as Euro headbangers.  Nicely done by the Torreeez[2], though, to marginalise their hardest competitor for votes as "banging on about Europe".

Had my friendly neighbour over for a barbie today, along with his lovely wife and charming daughter.  The kids all go to the same nursery, and the Dad, G, comes along to the Dad's group with his daughter on Saturday mornings.  We spoke on recent events when he pulled my irons out of the fire, while the ladies were faffing about with the rabbit fare indoors.  As we speared the raw bloody meat onto skewers, he noted that in London he helped me one way - in Uraguay (his home nation) he'd have helped me in a different way.

There's quite a bit to think about, and I've been doing a lot of that the last couple of weeks.

And that is the last I shall say on this, other than many thanks to the supportive, as ever, on HuSi.

Those that are worried about these things might also like to worry about something else - at the minute the papers are being drawn up to indebt me to the banks for just shy of £650,000.00

Victorian era, sixty metres from the front gate of an Outstanding Primary School, 4 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, granite work surfaced kitchen, downstairs toilet, in no need of any construction work or even re-painting and it'll halve my commute time.

Fuck you, sociologists, who claim that having the well off live next to the poor leads to a better society.

It doesn't. It just makes those that have, targets for those that do not. And with all of the community work I am involved in - it's all driven by those that have.

Try to involve the have nots - and they are mystified that there is actually work that goes into the street parties, that people do spend time planting flowers and give up their Sundays to weed the kids playground. That's by the four gay blokes and the three retirees, by the way, with no immediate benefit to themselves. The gay guys have no children; the retirees' have no grandkids in London apart from the rare couple of weeks that they visit from Jamaica.

And then slowly - the haves, who can, who try to make things better - stop. There's only so much you can take before you just walk away.

It'll cost me a metric fuckload of cash - which if in the next 5 years we have a continuing recession will ruin me.

But fuck it, I'm done trying to help this community - until the community makes an effort back. Except those 7 that I've already mentioned, and I don't know how much longer they'll keep it going, either.

Up your fucking arses, social "justice" fans. You just don't understand those that you try to help.

...what are you going to do with the Shed of Destiny?!?

Girls come and go but a mortgage is for 25 years -- JtL

Keep it. by Breaker (4.00 / 1) #3 Sun May 13, 2012 at 11:45:50 AM EST
Given that successive governments have stolen and ruined every kind of way of holding on to wealth - Brown with pensions, Osbourne with negative effective interest rates - the only way to plan for a retirement that isn't cold beans, mouldy toast and death by hypothermia...

Is to become a rentier.  Inflation proof, politics proof.

Oh yeah by Breaker (4.00 / 1) #4 Sun May 13, 2012 at 11:46:13 AM EST
And it will hurt to give the shed up.

I doubt they'd have the brass to confiscate peoples homes, wholesale.  Obviously, HS2 is a good "reason" to disposess those who are inconveniently in the way, but mass reposession of our castles?

There would be piano wire.

Look to Germany by dmg (4.00 / 1) #9 Sun May 13, 2012 at 11:56:01 AM EST
Or indeed, Switzerland or the Netherlands.

The laws governing rental properties have a long way to go before they are as onerous as in the aforementioned countries.

In Germany under certain circumstances you simply cannot eject someone from your property even if they are not paying the rent.

In Switzerland there is enormous capital gains tax if you ever manage to pay off the mortgage.

It would not surprise me if uk law is forced mor into line with that of other EU countries in the name of "ever closer union".

EUia by Breaker (2.00 / 0) #11 Sun May 13, 2012 at 11:58:20 AM EST
Is going to go bang before the end of the year.

We'll either be sending armed state agents to shoot Greek civilians in the streets by December, or there will be a nuclear level self-destruction of EUia.

I hope so, but I fear more deals will be made by dmg (4.00 / 1) #13 Sun May 13, 2012 at 12:31:07 PM EST

I originally thought 2013 by jimgon (4.00 / 1) #22 Mon May 14, 2012 at 06:26:02 AM EST
Things are moving faster than I expected.  I didn't expect Sarkozy to lose his re-election.  I expected the confusion in Greece, but that the Franco-Prussian Alliance would pressure whoever rose to form a government.  This France thing speeds things up.  I wasn't anticipating the fracture to the Alliance.  So now I'm execting before Christmas this year, but possibly sooner.  The EU can go back to being a trade union.

No, it can't by brokkr (4.00 / 1) #25 Tue May 15, 2012 at 11:51:57 AM EST
This may also be news to our friends across the moat in Ingerland, but over here in Europe we're actually integrated in the EU now. If you try to take away stuff like free movement, good luck.

"ever closer union" by Breaker (4.00 / 1) #27 Tue May 15, 2012 at 11:55:01 AM EST
And so on.  I think what is being suggested is a return back to more trade based EEC style governance, rather than the bloated, corrupt and useless entity the EU has become.

Free trade, movement of labour, common standards - great.  Pretty much the rest of it you can shove, though.

It is already being by dmg (4.00 / 1) #29 Tue May 15, 2012 at 06:05:25 PM EST

There is no such thing as society. by dmg (4.00 / 2) #2 Sun May 13, 2012 at 11:41:44 AM EST
Thatcher was right.

Fuck you, sociologists, who claim that having the well off live next to the poor leds to a better society.
Sociology is not a real science, so it's hardly surprising when it's conclusions are questionable. I find the 20ft wall, spiked railings and CCTV in my apartment block do a great deal to mitigate the issues caused by living in close proximity to the urban criminal underclass.

Good luck with the relocation...

Also, re ukip and tactical voting by dmg (4.00 / 1) #5 Sun May 13, 2012 at 11:46:34 AM EST
For me it makes no difference who wins the election so long as the uk is still part of the EU, so for that reason, had I still believed in democracy, I would have voted UKIP.

In reality even ukip don't go far enough. I want English independence... Lets cut off the money supply not just to the eu but to the scrounging scots and whinging welsh too.

We're well up for cutting them loose.  The Scots - not so much.
