Print Story The days are turning nerve-wracking

A trickle is coming out of the schools I applied to, but no word yet. It seems they work through the submissions, perhaps, before sending out all the acceptances, and my record, though good, isn't good enough to be in the very first pile of unconditional admits.

And most schools, you know, determine funding immediately, unlike the school that admitted me already, which determines it in March, which is somewhat nonstandard.

Anyway, so I'm sitting here reloading a couple times a day waiting to see a cascade of results from one of my schools to indicate I should've had a reply. Only one school has a reliable "application status" site.

Okay, and I'm boned here at work a little, I have to get some important things done and I just realized how much time this other important but dull and unrewarding thing I definitely have to do today is going to take, leaving me not very much time for the big important and somewhat interesting things. Well, whatevs.

Last night I was playing blitz on the iPod and was down to rook vs bishop - no pawns. A theoretical loss, but practically difficult to win. In that interface, you have to go into a menu to claim the draw by the 50-move rule and there's no way to see a move list to count moves and I didn't want to try frivolously and run out of time. Turns out we played 100 moves before he just gave up his rook to end it.

Okay, time to finish working. Le sigh.

that's sort of why most places don't say anything by the mariner (4.00 / 1) #1 Fri Feb 03, 2012 at 05:35:08 PM EST

might be better to just forget about gradcafe or whatever forums. you're probably not going to be the last one to get your letters.
