Apparently, my son's chess teacher is bringing "an Armenian grandmaster" over to our house tomorrow.

My wife couldn't remember his name, but could remember that he now lives in California. I'm hoping it's Varuzhan Akobian (#6 USA, #176 among active players worldwide.) That would be pretty cool. I'll update tomorrow.

I don't have any stories about him.

I left off a lot of people by nathan (2.00 / 0) #5 Wed Feb 22, 2012 at 11:10:19 AM EST

There weren't nearly enough poll options to cover every Armenian grandmaster.

It really was Akobian by nathan (4.00 / 1) #6 Thu Feb 23, 2012 at 12:13:36 PM EST
Can you imagine being #6 in the USA at anything? My wife said he was polite and modest. Makes me wonder if there's ever been another occasion when I was entertaining grandmasters unawares.
