A type of insect,
fear it's bite!
When you get the answer,
You'll know you're right

bish to tiebreak: bish to blank

Chess:
been getting into chess recently, SWWNO played my first human to human (well with an internet in the middle), game in many a year and won (while no one cares for my own records the game is here  http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=49783922 )

Work:
trying to improve client - server robustness to tcp failure (specifially connections being closed), anyone know of decent software for micking badly behaved networks?

Life:
blah blah blah

Question Time:
Can they stop with the random celebrities already?

brute force network problem simulator by clover kicker (4.00 / 1) #1 Fri Feb 10, 2012 at 06:30:20 AM EST
At the physical level, a cheap hub on your desk you can unplug at will.

At the IP level you could use netcat or something to spoof a TCP connection closing.

You're going to want a sniffer too. Wireshark is good and open source.

thanks good suggestions by TPD (2.00 / 0) #2 Fri Feb 10, 2012 at 06:46:49 AM EST
taking a look what I can mimick with netcat now

nah, the pros use UDP, and sometimes even multi-cast.

That even to this day uses RPC for market data. I cannot even begin to explain how fucked this is.

Midge

People used to "mimic" a dodgy network by using Tiscali.

nope - not the answer I am looking for by TPD (2.00 / 0) #7 Fri Feb 10, 2012 at 10:24:33 AM EST
and indeed, having experienced Tiscali it would nicely mimic the issues
