According to science it does...

It irritates me somewhat that science keeps trying to prove the obvious, and nowhere more so than in the area of human biology and medicine.

Why is anyone spending money on this type of pointless research?

What's next? Alcohol gets you drunk? Sky found to be blue? Water is wet shocker?

They *asked* women? by codemonkey uk (4.00 / 1) #3 Fri Dec 14, 2012 at 03:08:35 PM EST
160 person sample.

This is not statistically significant, or good science.

I expect the penis-size-to-orgasm graph to be a bell curve. Bigger = Better is not a theme that continues indefinitely...

It's quite hard to design an experiment by dmg (2.00 / 0) #4 Fri Dec 14, 2012 at 06:30:53 PM EST
That controls for penis size and penis size only and measures the quality of an orgasm. So I guess anecdotal evidence is the best we can do.

It is hard to prove the latter statement by anonimouse (4.00 / 1) #5 Fri Dec 14, 2012 at 08:53:44 PM EST
160 people is quite a reasonable sample compared to many studies, and could be argued to be statistically significant. The only problem that I can see is that 160 people in a University library may not be a sufficiently diverse cross section of the female population. e.g. To take a ridiculous example, it may be that only women of greater than average intelligence like large members.

i never thought i'd see the day -- the internet invents a laffer curve for penis size. kooky pseudoscience dies hard.

Media driven science by wumpus (4.00 / 1) #6 Fri Dec 14, 2012 at 09:23:16 PM EST
is likely different from data driven science. I'm curious to know if any science departments/funding agencies grade papers/grants/programs on the media exposure they get. I typically assume anything based on surveys is propaganda paid for by a PR agency somewhere, but this seems unlikely here. Maybe they are fishing for PR money?

The other explanation is that they are sick of trying to explain human size vs. other primates and decided to throw this into the literature. It fits the rest of the data.
