Stuff. With a side of things.

It's been a rough week, for no reason I can discern. It's an anniversary, a sad one, and that's certainly part of it.

Had an idea early in the week, sent out the results, which seem more or less consistent with what other people are seeing using other data. The guy in charge of the product suggested I try taking out his (wildly extrapolated) correction, but the more I think about it, the less sense is made by the details in his e-mail. I was hoping for one of those moments of clarity when the fog parts for a moment to reveal the Bismark down below, but it didn't happen.

I rewrote for what might be the 5th draft, the opening scene for my latest novel. Dunno whether I'll push this one through, but I now have a much better idea of where it's going. It'd be something to occupy the long dark winter nights.

And now I have a cat in my lap. Not exactly the best thing, ergonomically: laptop on my knees, seated in a recliner, cat on my lap with his head on my left wrist. Typing. Small wonder my arms and wrists have been achey lately. Not to mention the muscles in my back.

Massage therapist is giving up he Cambridge office the end of next month. :-(

And there's a small sound, of the house shifting or something, behind me. The cat startles, cranes his neck, and from what I can read of his body language (where his nose is pointed, and the swishing of his tail), he's watching something (or someone) I can't see at all coming down the stairs. It's the stuff nightmares are made of.

It's been mild here this winter, with just token amounts of snow (except the end of October, which was remarkably early for the 6" of glop we got then). Today it was nearly 50 F (convert) and sunny. So I got my shopping done by noon, and spent a quality half hour after lunch napping.

I got out the guitar, which was horribly out of tune what with having been untouched for months. I tried not to overdo it the first day, so maybe I'll be going back regularly until I have callouses again. That would be a something.

Choir friend broke her elbow ice skating a couple weeks back. So understandably she missed the one rehearsal in January, and hasn't been around on Sundays. I wonder if she's Officially Unwelcome because she missed the rehearsal. It's a remarkably silly rule.

Google found me this: husi RFC tag (which oddly isn't listed under "all tags") including LinDze's swordfish steak with wasabi & red wine reduction. Teh yum. This was a propos of having found baby bok choy in the supermarket, and so picking up swordfish as I passed the fish counter.

Anyway. I seem to be surviving. More or less.

Oh, and... Huge solar flare with coronal mass ejection headed our way got here Monday, so the satellite has been shut down, waiting out the radiation storms, twice so far this week. The mission planning people are tired of replanning to pick up science operations tomorrow, every day.

more guitar! by clock (4.00 / 1) #1 Sat Jan 28, 2012 at 11:04:12 PM EST
it's good for everyone.  with our house on the market and a temporary apartment in our future Stacky is trying to figure out how many I am willing to have in storage.  I think I can live with only 4 in the house.  She thinks that's excessive.  She is, of course, crazy.

Anywho, more guitar!

I agree with clock entirely --Kellnerin

In case you haven't found it already: "Six Months, Three Days"

It's not a time-travel story, but the love-story-with-future-knowledge reminded me a bit of some aspects of BBT.
