I was wondering if the same thing could be acheived with template metaprogramming. Then I realised that the whole world had gone insane.

One of my big pieces of work a few years back was a system that allowed users to specify mathematical models in a macro language. The system then spat these out as C++, compiled them up into DLLs and ran it. It was much faster than any competing system.
