Print Story A grab bag of pseudo-randomness

Pseudo-random stuff, to-wit:
  • ipod bug
  • weeding and wighting
  • reading and writing
  • reding and riting
  • ice cream kitty

A month or two ago (time passes unmarked lately), i dropped my iPod Touch (2nd generation?) on the floor. No obvious ill effect. But perhaps some subtle ones...

It seems slow. Slower than it was. It also crashes from time to time, usually while starting up an app. I like playing minesweeper, and lately it crashes, often on a left 2-finger swoop gesture. Even more lately, it often pops me into another game out of my games folder. Perhaps this is delayed action from the end of the swoop...

So Sunday toxicfur came over in the afternoon, wrote for a while on my couch (she, sitting on the couch, wrote something she later posted here as a diary). We then went to the garden center and bought veggies for my garden, some herbs, a few tomatoes and herbs for her to take home and grow in flower pots, and some dirt. We then came home and planted the garden, grilled out, and she was still home before dark to take the puppies out for their walk. Was fun.

However, all that squatting did a number on my hamstrings. I'm all trembly still.

Today I re-read the 2/3 of a latest draft that's extant of my on again, off again, novel. There's some good stuff there; better than the 2nd edition (the last full draft). And a plot crisis which is why i stopped writing where I did on that draft. Not sure what to do about it, but I'm closer to the action again.

The weather is officially fabulous.

As for the rede and the rite, I just put them in for completeness and homophony. Homonymy. Hominy. Should also talk about wrighting  and righting. And perhaps reeding (is that like caning?)

Here endeth the nonsense.

I went out for a walk today to buy ice cream for the cat.

Back in the wintertime sometime (see above under time passing unmarked), I offered my just-eaten bowl of ice cream to the cat, who was thrilled. I hadn't realized he was a dairy cat. And it turns out, he's picky. He doesn't like milk. He doesn't like cream. He likes white ice cream of various flavors. I haven't offered him anything with chocolate in it, because it's toxic for small critters. He doesn't like coffee ice cream. This week at the grocery store I bought "mission fig" flavored ice cream. He won't lick the bowl. So I bought him some vanilla. I'll eventually eat most of it myself, of course, but while I'm working on the fig, he'll get a sliver of vanilla in a cup or something.

And now he's turning up his nose at the vanilla. Leaves more for me. I can eat it with the strawberries we bought at the farm stand and split (there being too many in a container for one person).

I'm told I'm pussy-whipped.

Also last winter, I bought a bag of dry food to put into the automagical 2wice-daily dispenser while I was away over Christmas. So to use that up, I'd give him a handful of it at bedtime. And like most critters, if you do it twice, it's like that for always, so he wanted more bedtime treats, every night. I'm still doing it... I also got some "greenies" brand treats that supposedly help with plaque on his teeth. We'll see.

I'm off work this week. It's nice. I need to walk around more. If I'm going to retire and spend my life writing in this house, I'm going to need a nice office chair and possibly an actual desk. I'm sure the cat will adopt the chair immediately.

Kellnerin reminds me I've been out of college for 35 years, and haven't really been back to Boulder, where I grew up, since I graduated. For more than a few hours at a time, anyway. I think I stayed over night a time or two for high school reunions. Of which the 40th is coming up in about a year. In these days of facebook, the folks back home at least know I'm out here and interested this time around.

has become addicted to Stonyfield's farm Banilla, if she does not get it in the morning, she becomes irate.

as she hates to be picked up, cries a lot, and gets into stuff. Apparently calico's are like that.
