I know in previous diaries I had a discussion about beefy tacos and all, but I am here to inform all of you that "al pastor" is the one true taco.

Or burrito.

And cheap taco stands that are across the street from me are so much better than pretenders like Chipotle. It's a lame grocery store, but a pretty okay taco stand.

Yergh: sinuses suck. Well, it's just the one sinus that's sucking.

The wifing unit will come home today. I like the wifing unit.

D'oh! Apparently Electric Six is in town and I can't see them.

re: car repairs. I'm going to try to replace the window myself. I'm not going to fix the turn signal myself, though. Hopefully it's just a matter of plugging something in. It rained yesterday; I hope my plastic bag worked adequately.

I pretty much have no symptoms of the sinus thing except the headache and some fatigue. The headache pisses me off.

One thing that pisses me off about the current legislative process is that getting anything through the Senate is impossible without 60 votes (and everybody votes on party lines). The filibuster was not this common in the past. This is not necessarily an indictment of the Republicans, but it just happens that the Republicans are the minority and are using the tactic. Filibuster reform is something I want to happen no matter what party is in charge. Needing a supermajority to pass legislation is contrary to the spirit of things.

Anyway, I'm out.

Filibuster by ucblockhead (2.00 / 0) #1 Fri Nov 04, 2011 at 03:23:05 PM EST
The reason is pretty simple.  They don't make people actually filibuster anymore.  It'd happen less if someone had to stay up all night talking.

I'm a huge fan of the filibuster. I think we need it to help moderate abuses by the majority party.

But, as implemented, its fundamentally broken because they don't make the filibustering Senators actually filibuster.

But, to be fair, the Democrats seem to be totally crap at parliamentary maneuvers. There are things they could do that might filibusters too painful to continue. It seems, however, that the Democrats just don't have enough spine to go toe to toe with the GOP.

i wish i could find good bad mexican food. by the mariner (2.00 / 0) #2 Fri Nov 04, 2011 at 03:43:27 PM EST
i used to go to  this tiny little place that was just a skillet, a couple tables, a deep fryer and a counter. it was the best mexican food ever. like, nachos, chimichangas, you name it, i can't find a place that can beat it.

chipotle is good. i like chipotle a lot, but i'll take ghetto mexican any day.

also, the way the filibuster works now is stupid. it is true, as ucblockhead says, that they just don't make the republicans stand and read all night. they should. the headlines would be "fifth straight day of republican filibuster, gridlock in the senate." as long as some dumbass democrats don't actually get in on the filibuster, i don't see how the democrats lose on that. but then, i have to think they know something about it we don't.

it's part of the republican strategy, though. democrats have an agenda that requires passage of new laws. republicans basically don't. if they fuck things up and nothing passes, that's a win for them. most of what they say they want to do is just bullshit to gin up votes from people who go to church in strip malls. in fact, much of what they want to do is best done by electing a president and just not regulating stuff. so it makes a lot of sense to just break the legislative process, cut ads about how it's the president's fault, and hope for a second bush administration next time.

Sorry 'bout your lack of Electric Six, Bro. by ammoniacal (2.00 / 0) #4 Fri Nov 04, 2011 at 06:54:48 PM EST
