A WFC Post_mortem

She fears her own tiebreak:
She fears her own blank

I really enjoyed the latest WFC, mainly because the remit was wide but fun, reading through the suggested topics I knew pretty much straight away that I was going to cover

Give me lyrics to a song about a creature of legend transformed into a suburban soccer parent

and I was going to make it about Medusa, and the idea of her reflecting on the fact she was no longer a force in her own right but who's life is defined by a lonely existence as a single mum, whose life revolves solely around her child. Without the title it is purposely as easy to read the poem as that of a once beautiful woman who is defined in the same way. Though I chickened out and gave it rather a cliched title to make the connection with the theme a little too obvious,  "She fears her own reflection" would be a far more natural title, and echo the last line which refers both to her inward and outward reflection.

Anyway that is MORE than enough pretentious nonsense some day I might put it to music, but probably not....

Medusa - Ode to a soccer mum

Once her face was legend
Most famous of the land
But now she's barely noticed
Her looks just tired and bland

She's just her child's taxi
No one left to fear her
It's that her face has lost it's power
That makes her curse the mirror

Men did stop 'dead' in their tracks
At naught more than her glance
But heroes they no longer come
Don't care to have that dance

She's just her child's taxi
No one left to hear her
It's that her face is harmless now
That makes her hate the mirror

She smiles at her son's cute coach
But his face stays fixed like stone
Never a second to herself
But always so alone

She's just her child's taxi
No one left goes near her
It's that nobody else can see
That makes her break the mirror

Existence with no pleasure
But 'they' don't have a clue
It's her whose life's unchanging
It's her who's a statue

She's just her child's taxi
No purpose, drive, direction
Mere shadow of her former self
She fears her own reflection

Mother.

Actually, that's not suited to an amusing answer - "hamster" is as close as I got.

More amusing tiebreaks please. Enough of this seriousness. There is too much gloom in the world.
