The anonimouse keep fit program

I go down to the cafe with a group of collegues..

"Do you know where I can get an inexpensive bicycle that I can leave at the station over the weekend without worrying whether it gets robbed or not?"
"Sure there's a second hand cycle shop near to Tescos", one of them replies.
"I don't know where Tescos is, can you show me?". Whipping out my phone, I discover that the Google map application is great for such discussions.

Later that afternoon, I am sitting at my desk when a guy is wandering round desks, leaving a note on each one.
Cycle £50, nearly new. Selling because I am going to USA. Call 1-xxx-yyy-zzzz

"Hold it" I go, "If you can show me the cycle, I can probably save you the trouble of handing out the notices."

So we go down to the cycle shed, and sure enough there is an 18 speed cycle in good condition, perhaps the only exception is that there is a small amount of rust on the surface of some of the chromed areas where it has been left in the elements. Tyres, frame and gears are in excellent condition, so there's nothing serious to complain about.

So next Thursday will see another fat bloke on a bicycle chugging around the country.....

I want to join the club by riceowlguy (2.00 / 0) #6 Thu Jul 29, 2010 at 11:55:20 AM EST
I live about a five minute bike ride from about twenty miles of nice biking trails.  Yes, it is bloody hot here most of the time, but that's what Camelbacks are for.  I like tennis and walking and going to the gym, but it would be nice to be able to explore long distances within a reasonable time.

Me being the snob that I am, however, I will more than likely drop $500 or more on a new bike.

Good luck and best wishes for a healthier you. Maybe your detailed progress will inspire me to strive for such greatness in myself.

It's worth it. I'm still a fat old man but after riding the past ~7-8 years I can proudly state my BP has gone from 140/80 to 106/70, with a resting pulse in the mid-50s.
