ohmyfreakinggodsheissoadorable and she reminded me a lot of LO at that age.
I don't like many children other than my own, but I would have gladly taken her home. And the thought that she is going to have a sibling...just overwhelms me. ;-)
Many many thanks to technician and his beautiful wife and Welsh Girl and atreides for coming out on Monday. I had a great time - would do again A++++++. And to the handsome LinDze, I appreciate the ride from my hotel, but I am not to be trusted navigating anyone anywhere with my iPhone apparently. Nonetheless in Tejas. Poor LinDze...he and I got a 15 minute tour of suburban Austin.
Aside from the awesome dinner on Monday (which worked out quite well for my schedule)...my stay in Austin was a blur for the most part. I had to juggle tradeshow duties and my regular work (which I am dealing with a higher volume of leads) and the fact that I didn't sleep at all on Sunday night. I am still not caught up on everything.
The tradeshow itself was kinda a bust as it was small and the companies there were not used to the atmosphere of pitching and getting pitched to (say as opposed to the gaming industry that has 3 or 4 shows a year). These guys were for the most part nerdy and not open to socializing, but I digress. The show was small and we'll probably go all out next year.
The wins for me was that we happened to catch a prospective client at the show who noticed me on Monday. Because I was the only chick exhibiting in this one room...and then, HIGHLARIOUSLY enough, he did a double take of the sign I was standing next to and realized what company I was with. It was all good - in that the guy talked to my west coast salesguy and me a few times in the days after. The other win was that I was able to connect with a few industry analysts on my last day... it's usually my VP's job to do that but he was on vacation, I was in charge and the show only had a few women in an non-booth babe capacity.
The other win? I won a new iPod nano at a booth on Tuesday. I gave it to LO. She nearly died of excitement.
The other realization I had from this week? I am never ever parking in long term parking at the airport ever again. My plane was the last to come into PHL on Wednesday night because of delays and storms on the East Coast. I got in after midnight. Because of this, it literally took me 15 minutes to get off the plane, grab my checked bags and be in my car. A new record.
Unfortunately, I did not get to bed until 2am that night, because my Dad was still up when I got to my parents. I had to indulge him for a little bit as he needed to talk.
The cicadas are out and it's hot as hell so that means my birthday is coming up next week...
In previous years, I've gone on fantastic trips, gotten jewelry and got my job offer (that was last year).
Not sure what I am up for this year - although I may just take a test drive.
LO is doing well... her and I have had a grand time since I came back. She LOVED being at sleepaway camp...and can't wait to return next week. And the best part? She is "single". She broke up with the boy she was "dating" in her school and she "met" another boy at sleepaway camp. But she does not want to date him because he lives in another town. I'm down with that. She also seems to be back with her old girlfriends from school.
Well, except for waking her on Thursday and Friday...where she was the demon teenage spawn. She was still exhausted from her 2 weeks of camp.
The other LO news? She is going to have a little brother or sister. Stepmom got pregnant. That was the reason why he withdrew the court action to modify child support so he would pay less. I've asked LO how she feels about it, and she said "I don't know." Me? I feel that, well that her Dad is going to get what he gives in the end. There is absolutely, positively no way that he will be able to spend more time with LO. And even though I can be cold of heart at times, I do hope that the kid is healthy (despite the fact that the older siblings have learning and physical issues) which LO has been told she "stresses out".
Given that LO has been thriving since she's been with me full time...fulfilling the dependable parent role for her is what is most important right now.
So that is that.
The other news, my little sister called me yesterday evening to let me know she picked out her wedding dress. She is getting married next spring - most likely in the Keys - to her best friend's little brother.
She did not start dating him until I was down in Florida for my $milestone birthday uh, not too long ago cough cough. My sister and her best friend hosted a birthday dinner for me and the guy best friend was dating at the time (we shared the same birthday in the same year).
As they were making dinner, I watched how best friend's little brother was treating my sister and saw something special. Later that night I took my sister aside to ask why they were not dating.
"Well, he's 18 and I am 24" she tells me.
"But he treats you so well." I reply.
It was only after my gentle pushing that they dated for a few years. Then they heartbreakingly broke up for a few years after he needed to get his ya-yas out. They got back together a year or so ago and he proposed over the holidays.
He is a good man and I am happy for her. She wants to be pregnant next summer for she will be 32.
I have promised her a trip to Vegas. Will need to schedule that soon.
That is all.
