Things I have learned from the burglaries in my neighborhood.

Jewelry case on your dresser with lots fine stuff means you might as well open up the thieves bags and dump your stuff in.

Why break a window when a resident doesn't even have secure window latches. They will try to come in gently and quickly rather than break glass.

If you park your SUV in your back area and you think it is safe because you have a camera, think again. If you don't place the camera high enough the theives will just reach up and cut the wire and then break into your SUV.

Never hire maids or nannies who do stupid stuff like leave the front door wide open while running to the back of the house.

If your home alarm is going off, do not enter your place unless you are armed with a weapon that you know how to use. Do not assume the theives don't realize most alarm companies  have 90 sec window to activate and that they won't be wrapping up with the alarm going off. A good team can break in and clear you out in 3-4 min from in to out.
