I realize that living in South Dakota means I have to tolerate certain extremes with the weather. Ridiculous heat with winds that feel like hell itself expelling itself towards you. Cold that will make you chill to the bone in less time than it takes to walk to the mailbox and back even while bundled up. Winds at any time that can knock you on your ass then disappear instantly.
What I don't accept is when these things get flipped around. We should be entering the hot phase of the year. Instead, we're hovering on the brink of snow/sleet constantly, temps dipping below freezing at night, and CONSTANT FRIGGIN RAIN.
It doesn't help that the weather folks (FU SHAWN CABLE) keep promising it's going to get better, but the day it's supposed to get better gets moved back twenty four hours, every twenty four hours. And no, I don't think ONE FUCKING DAY WITHOUT RAIN is too god damn much to ask for this time of year. Right now we're hovering with the promise that Saturday may actually reach sixty and be sunny. However, be ready for more rain Sunday.
I'm calling bullshit. To quote my good buddies Chimaira:
The sky is falling
The end is here
The final warning
The sun disappears
If I just tell myself it's never coming out again, then maybe I can move on with my life. It's been more than two weeks at this point, why would I believe it'll pop out again now?
So, these glasses that were supposed to be here about three weeks ago finally showed up. I went to pick them up. Mrs. NFB and the lady using me as a dress-up face assured me these were really happening. As I couldn't see very well while wearing the sample lenses, I took their word for it.
Now that I have real lenses in and can see myself in a mirror, I couldn't decide: nerd, serial killer, or nerdy serial killer?
I told Mrs. NFB these look like the frames they give the guy in the movies that comes across as quiet and shy to the outside world because in reality he wants to kill everyone. She says, "I guess that's why I like them."
I guess I've found my calling.
Aquarium pics - including the ever elusive starfish!
A full shot on day 8 since the tank became a system. Not a lot looks like it's changed from a distance, but up close?
These strange looking lumps have shown up on open sandy patches near the back of the tank just in the last couple days. No idea what they are, or if they're alive. They do appear to grow more plentiful each morning though. I'll try to get a blurrier shot next time. *GRUMBLE*GRUMBLE*LENSES*GRUMBLE*
The little pathway of sand under the smaller rock structure is becoming dirty. Some of it's diatoms and algae, but some of it is clearly something that's being transported off the rocks. Transported by what? That's the question.
These were first spotted yesterday when Mrs. NFB flipped the lights on at noon. Don't know what they are, where they came from, or anything else about them. They don't appear to move, so it's possible they are refuse/waste from some of the deeper dwelling rock creatures. Currently unknown.
The main rock face has really colored up over the last few days as well. The coraline algae has deepened, expanded, and added some colors. Though some of the other rock areas are looking a little standard issue algae encrusted right at the moment.
The little starfish managed to find his way back to the glass from his perch atop the smaller rock structure. Had a hard time getting a good shot of him with his placement. I need a better telephoto so I can back off a bit and get the tripod involved. I tried to sharpen it up as best I could though. Keep in mind, he's a little under a quarter of an inch limbtip to limbtip. The limbs he lost to the filter are already starting to grow back, and it's only been a few days. A good sign all things considered.
The general crapness of these pictures is really making me think it's time to get those new lenses I've been eyeballing for the past couple years.
Mrs. NFB's take on the tank at this point, "That's just creepy. You don't know what's living on or in that rock." That's sorta the whole point, but I've caught her watching the little movers and shakers from time to time, despite her protests.
