Catching up on Pokey the Penguin.

Played games last night. Mare Nostrum. Good times.

Car rental for Thanksgiving is costing money. Bah. Money.

I just did SUMPRODUCT for somebody. Makes life a lot easier.

I may take a class on stochastic processes next semester in addition to the other class. I know I thought I'd only do one class at a time, but this is a good class that doesn't come up often. We'll figure it out. I would then be taking classes on Wednesday and Thursday.

I've been thinking about The Simpsons a lot. Season 7's bad episode was the shoplifting one. Season 8 was okay, with some decline, some misses, but some iconic episodes (HANK SCORPIO). Season 9 was showing signs of the modern nonsense from the first episode, the New York one. And then Skinner being fake. And later such nonsense like "Bart Carny". And the "Lord of the Flies" episode. Man, those were all Season 9? How terrible. Those are amusing enough to watch, I guessI only recall this analysis after looking at the wikipedia season page just now. I was discussing it last night with some people, but I did not have examples at hand and felt bad about it, so I attacked the wikipedia page again with vigor to solidify my conclusions and enable myself to discuss vigorously without having to beg off for lack of details.

WENT BACK TO ADD: Oh, crikey, that Naval Reserve episode with the penguins was season 9, too. And a bunch of other crap. Yeah, season 9 is definitely the cutoff. OH DEAR. The "exhibitionism" episode was that year, too. A cursory glance at season 10 indicates the show was dead by then: "Viva Ned Flanders". There are episodes in both of those seasons I have not seen. The wifing unit has not seen much of The Simpsons. She has seen the movie, ugh, which does not exist to me, so I believe I shall expose her to the real show sometime.

This one is profound: http://www.yellow5.com/pokey/archive/index509.html PLEASE SEPARATE THE SHEEP FROM THE GOATS.

I am now on Boat Book #9. I have definitely read this before. I don't know whether I skipped any books or not. The plot of Letter of Marque does not sound familiar to me, but I remember the girls who survived smallpox in Nutmeg of Consolation.

This week I sucked on the homework and quiz. Ugh. I'll do quite well on the final, though. I will also make sure to rock the chance for extra credit that we have. I made a simple mistake on the arithmetic on the quiz and then grew skeptical of the formula (the formula was right) and tried a different way (which was wrong). I expect 5 points out of 30.

Stochastic modeling was the hardest class I took in grad school, but it really depends on what the class is focusing on.  If you're just given the equations and told to use them, it's only a moderately difficult concept, if they expect you to understand the equations though...

Actually, I just got some exam results back. Pass with a bit of leeway on the words, only missed a few on the numbers (and I think they were the ones I knew I didn't know).

Definitely season 8 by ucblockhead (2.00 / 0) #5 Fri Nov 19, 2010 at 07:40:30 PM EST
When I started buying the DVDs, I bought them as they came out, but only if an episode on that season was one I thought worth rewatching.

Season 8 only made it on "You Only Move Twice".

I didn't realize it at the time...the moment I remember as shark jumping was when they killed off Maude Flanders in season 11.  Suddenly it's a show with continuity?  What the hell...  It jarred me into realizing that none of the immediately prior stuff was worth anything.

I held on watching for a good four seasons more, but don't remember a damn thing about any of them.
