Yeah, so I'm kinda sick of this company.

I'm a better employee than they seem to think.

I mean I over-delivered.  I achieved 5 out of 5 objectives from previous review.  Everything I needed to get working worked.  I handled a change in spec with minimal fuss.  Code by other coders was consistently badly written, hopelessly naive and unmaintainable.

Somehow they only focussed on the negatives. And blamed me for bugs caused in areas that I had no contact with. Honestly, I really need to find a way to market myself as a hero who fixes problems when other people cause them but I have no idea how to do that.

Instead I've handed in my notice and taken on a contract job.  Pretty crappy pay for a contract but much more than I'm getting right now and at least I have better job security.  Yes.  Seriously.

once you have the hero rep, it pays off. by garlic (4.00 / 2) #1 Wed Aug 26, 2009 at 12:10:38 PM EST
It also pays off to have the rep of being too busy to work on someone's piddling problems. And to have a mostly absent supervisor.

I know a lot of people getting bad performance reviews right now who deserve better.  Performance reviews have nothing to with performance, and everything to do with money.  Nobody wants to be giving raises in this economy.  Rather than just saying "sorry, no raises" they just crap all over people instead.  Anyway, good on you for having the stones to walk away.

With fixing other people's mistakes, you can only get credit if you're prepared to grass them up for making the mistakes.

It's political correctness gone mad!
