Red Cliff [Blu-ray] [2008] [US Import] - Ais
Outstanding Battles
If you like this type of film.Red Cliff is a must see. The battle scenes are spectactular and the story is more than passible.
I bought this film having read the reviews by previous watchers and was not disappointed. Highly recommended. John Woo rarely disappoints.
Red Cliff - Parts 1 and 2
At last the glorious full version of Red Cliff has come available (rather than the butchered Cinema Release). John Woo's film runs for 280 minutes and engages the viewer from the first. Every scene is perfectly framed by Lu Yue and Zhang Li's magnificent camera work, the editing was spot on (though a few more frames at the end of the tiger hunt would have helped).
Characterisation of the many major players develops well thanks largely to the length of the movie.
The battle scenes are enormous. Certainly there is a lot of blood being spilled but this is kept reasonable. The final hour is devoted to the great battle on land and on the Yangtse River is both dramatic and riveting.
It was my very first Blu-ray purchase and certainly justified my investment in new equipment. Wow - some battle!!
Five stars
Red Cliff
Hi.
Well this movie is well worth watching if your tactical minded and like the marshal arts.
I beleave its one of the best I have seen in a long time on Chinese subjects with breath taking views and filming.
I did however not view it in blu-ray but in DVD formatt.
I recommend this movie in both blu-ray and DvD..
Please let it end
There is a lot of superb cinema coming out of the Far East these days. But i feel the time has come for these overblown epics. I have watched a fair few of these films now Hero, House of Flying Daggers, The Warlords i could go on. I am now going to draw a line under them i'm afraid. There are just too many characters, casts on the grand scale. So no more skies filled with arrows.
Watch the Good, the Bad and the Weird instead very violent and very funny and way shorter.
A spectacle to behold
The approx. 4 hr 40 min. film is full of all the requirements you would want: war, love, mystery, intrigue, and so on. Beautifully done, even though there are many war scenes, it is full of aesthetics and very spiritual. As mentioned in some of the previous reviews...unfortunately the subtitles are very difficult to read due to the small writing and I had to rewind several times to see what was written. Even so, this is a film not to be missed.
