Cant take seriously.

Surely, any credablity this over indulged made for t.v drama might have had, was lost when the guy from the Orange cinema adverts appears as a serious character. Funny though.

DVD

Much enjoyed and the original plot is much simplified. Not a patch on the original British version which has more depth.

Pleasant enough thriller

'State Of Play' is fun to watch. Leads Russel Crowe as nonchalant, yet adept reporter and Ben Affleck as slick politician call each other's bluff reciprocally. Once uni-pals, they're now adversaries, entangled in a web of dodgy security deals, which, in the end, could undermine the US-government. Along with supports Rachel Mc Adams and Helen Mirren the spider in the devious web is exposed and brought to justice. SOP is a tense, fast paced and streamlined thriller, with a firm dose of humor thrown in. Best enjoyed when in need of light hearted, yet high quality entertainment. Nevertheless, disposable! I don't think I'll watch it again. I expect it's in for a long life as shelf-filler in one of my dvd-cabinets.

Brilliant - a rare example of a good translation from small to big screen

This is a superb film. It follows much the same plot as the original BBC series. State Of Play : Complete BBC Series 1 [2003] [DVD] Some of the subsidiary storylines have been trimmed down to translate the film to the big screen but this does have only about half the running time of the TV series so that can't be helped. The oil company villain has been replaced with a private military company and the exact nature of Cal McCaffery (Crowe) and Collins' (Affleck) relationship has changed a little but in essence this is the same story.

Crowe is excellent as the slob reporter. Affleck is good as the smooth senator. Helen Mirren is a great replacement for Nighy as the editor.

The DVD contains some nice extras as well. There's a making of with cast and crew interviews which is actually interesting.

This is excellent. Yes it isn't as good as the series but it's well worth the watch nonetheless.

This "state of play" is excellent.

This film held my attention all the way through with a great twisty finish to a well thought out plot. Don't you just love Russsell C? Mumbles a bit like the incomparable Marlon B but has huge screen presence. The supporting cast do a professional job too. So in conclusion, if you like intrigue, dark politics and plenty of sub plots to keep you guessing, this is the film for you.
