I've been oddly productive lately. I tend to be somebody who ingests all the pieces and tools pertaining to a problem, and then stares out the window or plays websudoku until, suddenly, it all shakes together in a way that makes sense. And then, very quickly, I write a program or a document that encapsulates the solution.
I guess this was the week. I sent in a book chapter that's been hanging fire (read: procrastinated) for, oh, a year and a half? And the external review committee was in town. The presentations went well, with most of the actions assigned being getting what we know onto the website sooner and with better documentation. We can do that.
Meanwhile, the other project is one of those "assess the feasibility" of re-doing (and extending) an analysis we did for a report dated 1998. All the perl scripts are dead, because they depend on libraries that aren't around anymore. Oh, and 'use strict' breaks absolutely everything, but hey, it also points out bugs that have been there since 1996. Oopsie. Anyway, that's coming together. I can feel it.
Been thinking about the novel, and the motivations of the characters, and the various comments I've received.
We interrupt this transmission to report that Adam Lambert will have another highly original contribution to next week's American Idol. /me <3 Adam.
One comment was essentially Fermi's paradox: if long-haul time travel is possible, why aren't there people from the future dropping by to chat?
Well, I think I have a way to answer that question that arises from within the existing narrative. They are here.
So I guess there'll be a third draft. And the dates that I welded into the narrative during the second draft are going to be recent past instead of near future by the time I'm done with that. Sigh.
Friend survived the scary. 'Nuff said. Glad you made it.
Vienna Teng has a new album out. Go forth and consume. It's really really interesting. She has an odd knack for writing jaunty, happy-sounding songs about really deep and serious topics. War. Abortion, last time around. Her poetry is clever, and it's well-set to the music she writes. And performs flawlessly, live.
So what do people think about having a "finish up and turn in your old *FC projects" fun challenge?
