Sorry Bob, but it looks like you'll need to re-post your Rickroll.

that picture for the dust jacket? Is that from some wax museum in the mid 1990's?

I am not sure how to say it. I'm worried about him.

What's the book made out of, asbestos? I thought for a minute it was a special effect and the book was going to turn out to be Satan-endorsed fireproof.

Which is worse by Herring (4.00 / 1) #7 Sat Nov 28, 2009 at 03:02:16 PM EST
  1. Someone burning the book
  2. Someone buying the book in the first place
(OK, someone reading it and believing it might be worse than either)

Someone who thinks burning books by dmg (2.00 / 0) #8 Sun Nov 29, 2009 at 08:16:50 AM EST
Is acceptable behaviour. We all know where that slippery slope leads...

Yeah. But this isn't burning books for censorship. by greyrat (4.00 / 1) #10 Tue Dec 01, 2009 at 11:25:45 PM EST
This is burning books because the "author" is a giant, fat, douche bag full of hate, bigotry, xenophobia and fear. I'm not too worried about the implications of burning this individual copy versus the future availability of the book.

Its a slippery slope. by dmg (2.00 / 0) #11 Wed Dec 02, 2009 at 05:24:14 PM EST
And it's a short step from burning books to abridging their freedom of speech. But I guess given the current state of constitutional observance in the USA, its a bit late to start worrying...

Just like allowing teh gayes to marry will lead to by greyrat (2.00 / 0) #12 Thu Dec 03, 2009 at 08:59:54 AM EST
the enforced edumacation of teh gaye lifestyle in public schools.
  • Or eating meat will lead to cannibalism.
  • Or trying Al Queda members in New Your will lead to the conversion of the entire USA to Islam.
  • Or trolling HuSi will lead to a lifetime of being a dick.
A private citizen burning a book as a joke is not equal to the organized destruction of media by an influential political organization. But I do admire your senseless paranoia.

The conventional way to deal with books you disagree with is to debunk them using sound argument, reason and logic.

Or you can simply burn them.

Whilst burning books doesn't _automatically_ make you a totalitarian, it does beg the question, what are you afraid of, and is your cure worse than the disease?

As for trolling HuSi, I have no idea what you are talking about, a troll is a comment designed to provoke a response. I was merely observing that burning books it something the Nazis liked to do, and as such one ought to think carefully before advocating it on a website where children might be watching.

ROR!! 'a website where children might be watching' by greyrat (4.00 / 1) #14 Thu Dec 03, 2009 at 05:54:08 PM EST
Don't you know everyone on the Intertubes is an American male between the ages of 18 and 27?

I'd point out that the German book burners did, in fact "debunk" the books they burned using "sound argument", "reason" and "logic". Just not the "sound argument", "reason" and "logic" you might be familiar with.

I'd also point out that by your logic, since you have talked about the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, you have clearly emboldened them, and that you are acting on behalf of the Nazi Party -- in fact being a Nazi yourself -- by these actions. Right here, right now, you're on the slippery slope to murdering your first Jew and stuffing their hair into a pillowcase for your next nap time.
