Diary

The Jets and the Patriots aren't in the NFL playoffs, so I'm watching Baltimore play Miami.  The Miami QB has thrown two interceptions this quarter.  If I had liked him when he played for the Jets I would feel bad for him now. I didn't, so I don't.

Anyway this is a diary, not running comentary on an American football game.

I seem to have finally given up the last of my bitterness about my last job.  I'm an active user of Linkedin and I finally got around to linking to the guy who was my boss there.  We emailed a bit and it comes down to no-hard-feelings.  I feel like I'm finally growing up.  Now I just have to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life.

The hard part is that some of my responsibilities outside of work don't match with the ones I have in work.  I'm one of five people with oversite of a $16 million school budget.  I mae decisions that regularly impact 1,500 children and then another 300 staff. I then go to work and I don't have direct control over project budgets and I don't have any input into the decisions that are made.  So I'm starting to have issues between work and home life.  It's similar issues that started coming up at the end of my last job. I realize on a regular basis that I'm able to do more, and I see my current position and career path as limiting that.  This is really the year that I figure out what I'm going to do going forward and likely it's not IT.

I'm looking out into the yard, and I stil see all the damaged limbs from the ice storm.  I haven't really cleaned anything up.  I moved the branches and piled them up.  I still have a broken branches hanging from trees.  There's one right outside the living room window that will require me to climb the tree and cut loose.  My wife bought me a small electric chain saw for Christmas, so when winter breaks I'll be able to cut the branches up.  I suppose I should ready myself for many backyard fires over the spring and summer.   I still have a pile of logs from the previous set of downed trees.  I don't have a fireplace, so either the stuff gets given away or it sits until I finally get around to weekend campfires.

The football game is now starting the second half.  Score is 13 Baltimore to 3 Miami.   Miami's QB just threw another interception too.  According to the broadcasters he three seven during the regular season, and just so far this game it's been three.   Yep, that's the Chad Pennington I remember.

Over the summer a friend of mine pretty much made me create a Facebook account.  I can't remember what it was that she needed me to have a Facebook account for, but she did and I made one and didn't do anything other than what she wanted.   This week a bunch of people found it and added me as a friend.  So I've decided to put together my friends list.  I'm actually finding it enjoyable.  I figure I'll lose interest in about three weeks.

MIami just had a fumble with a Baltimore recovery.

Christmas at the jimgon homestead was reasonable.  I've discovered that there's an inverse ratio on my lenght of employ with my current company and my ability to enjoy holidays.  At any rate, the kids got some nice stuf.  My eldest daughter wanted an Airhogs Zero G race car and naturally got it.  She also got a pretty nifty night vision goggle.  The youngest wanted some Wonder Pets and Little Pet Shop toys.  And Santa's big gift was a Wii.  The Wii was teh most popular item of the holiday.

It's also Girl Scout Cookie time, so I have to start hitting people to buy cookies.  I still have two cases of the damn things from last year.   On the high point that means I can limit my purchases this year.  Of course I now have two Girl Scouts selling cookies.

Baltimore just intercepted the ball again.  The score is currently 20 - 3 with Baltimore in the lead.

Bill Richardson, Governor of New Mexico, has withdrawn from consideration to be Obama's Commerce Secretary.  I need more information to have a full opinion, but what I see so far leads me to think that it's pretty standard stuff and I can only see having it investigated because of the Commerce position.

Miami just scored, but missed the extra point.  Score is now 20 - 9 with Baltimore in the lead.

I find it quiant that Harry Reid wants to exclude Rod Blagojevich's choice for Barack Obama's former Senate seat.  He's using Article 1, Section 5 of the Constitution as his legal footing, "each House shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members.'  Harry Reid is a horrible Majority Leader and is using dubious logic.  I see him trying to prevent the seating, it going to the Surpeme Court and the Supreme Court looking at that sentence and wondering what Constitutional qualification Burris fails to meet.  In 1969 in Powell v McCormack the Court ruled similarly.  Reid should really think about it prior to blowing his wad like this.  He's blown it every time he's tried to open his mouth since he became Majority Leader and he hasn't even been able to pass legislation against Bush in two years.  Reid is useless and I wish someone else would seek to unseat him as Majority Leader.

That's it for me.  Score is still 20 - 9 in favor of Baltimore.

I'm not sure that I want Durbin "pardon the previous felonious IL gov" to take over either though.

Maybe they can monkey by jimgon (2.00 / 0) #8 Mon Jan 05, 2009 at 02:48:39 PM EST
A monkey would be just as effective and would have the added benefit of not being able to speak.  The poo throwing would actually be a benefit for the Senate.

You're a fan of both the Patriots and the Jets? How does that work?

It is an interesting position by jimgon (4.00 / 1) #9 Mon Jan 05, 2009 at 02:56:03 PM EST
Jets come first.  The Patriots are the fallback team.  In a head on head I go Jets.  When I got into football in 1985 the Patriots were hot and I didn't want to jump on a bandwagon, so I picked a bad team to follow.  It's also really hard to live in New England and not follow the Patriots since it's the team on TV most often.   I still refuse to jump on the bandwagon though.
