What are the downsides to La Jolla?

I really liked La Jolla. As an added bonus on a friday afternoon/night they had about 300 swimmers head out from the beach into the bay to the buoy's, probably about a miles worth of swimming, and back again. Very cool. I would do that every week if I was living there.

I liked the vibe of La Jolla too. It was a nice mix of Phoenix, Sydney and California. So what are the downsides there? Otherwise I think I have found the next spot I move to when I head west again.

More pics from La Jolla.

Also, who knew the network at the hotel had so many people willing to give? They really should have called the shares porn1, porn2, porn3, etc to save people browsing their shares any confusion.

Cost of living. by muchagecko (4.00 / 1) #1 Fri Aug 08, 2008 at 11:17:46 PM EST
Good luck finding a home you can afford in La Jolla. My ex's granny had a lovely home she bought in the 50's. She sold it for a fortune in the 90's.

Otherwise, I'm with you on how perfect La Jolla is.

everything around you bursts into flame.

Mainly cost, though. And Republicans.

I can't recall La Jolla being seriously threatened in living memory. Politically, it is not that bad. San Diegans are pretty liberal socially, and the university is just up the hill.

Lots of snotty rich people. That, and the fact that you have to be rich people to afford it.

Other than that, though, it's great. You should go to Torrey Pines beach and walk north as far as you can.

It's in San Diego by jxg (4.00 / 1) #6 Sat Aug 09, 2008 at 09:16:45 AM EST
Also it's a resort town. Very Californian, in the unfortunate 1950s sense. Other than that, nothing, I guess, although comparing it to Sydney seems a bit strange.

When there's a Mercede Benz McLaren SLR parked in front of the ultra high end restaurant on the main drag, it means you can't afford to live there.

No offense, but you're 'Vette would get about as much attention as the Prius we rented when we were in San Diego.

The restaurant Su Casa is the place to go.  Great mexican and they make the guac at your table.  It's down past the Ferarri and Bentley dealerships.
