Proper scheduling for system backups contained within.

Proper times to backup the servers:

  1. Directly after work shifts end.
  2. Middle of the night when even the from-home people are sleeping.
  3. Long backups - on Sunday.

Improper times to backup the servers:

  1. Right at the start of a work shift.
  2. Middle of the work day.
  3. Monday morning, right as first shift arrives.

We review these today because, frankly, I don't much care to have fifty calls waiting when I arrive for early shift only to discover that someone scheduled a full system lock-down style backup to kick-off right at 6:55 AM, which is approximately 25 minutes after work starts in the first stages of the plant.

Please to be rectumfrying this situation ideemiately if not sooner, k,thnx.

HAVE NO FEAR! by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #3 Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 09:23:38 PM EST
I have since been assured that no backup has been taken in the past three weeks because someone (not pointing fingers here) decided that the perfectly adequate backup routine that has been running for the last four years needed to be tweaked a little bit.

it's only like the middle of tornado and lightning season.  Why how would we ever lose data in those situations.

Not to mention our sporatic power supply. . . by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #5 Thu Jul 24, 2008 at 08:06:18 AM EST
which, only a couple weeks ago, caused us to lose power twice in two days right during the work shift.

No possibilities for data loss here. None at all.
