It's come to my attention that I haven't spent any time with HuSi in the last few months.  I really need to figure out how to get more HuSi time into the mix here.

Over the last month I've done considerable work related travel.  I've spent a few days in Atlanta, really just outside of Atlanta, but the official address  of the hotel and office is Atlanta.  I've also spent some time in Iowa City.  Iowa City is a pretty cool little college town, and if I were fifteen years younger I would have had a really rocking time.  But as it is I'm not, so it was one of those things of walking around feeling pretty old.  I had to go to both towns to deliver some  training on the application I've just spent eight months project  managing.  This last week I go to do a driving tour of the Northeast doing the same in New Hampshire, Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.  I don't mind travel, but over the last month it's been hovering around the 50% mark, which is a little  much for me.

Since I'm on the work topic I've already been moved to a new team.  I started working  for the company about eight months ago as a project manager, and now I've moved to the project management office.  My job there will be to create standards, methodology, and decide on best practices.  So I get to enforce what I  consider to be sound project  management on the IT department.  Given where I was this time  last year it's interesting how much things have changed for me.  Getting canned from the last job was definitely a good thing for my life.

Speaking of the last job.  I went to lunch with a former co-worker on Monday.  She  told me that the old place has actually gotten worse.  I didn't think it could.  I guess they're pressuring people even more for over time and not actually planning  out the  work very well.  Given how much stress I had there last year it feeds back to my comment that I'm glad I got canned from there.  I  remember last year from my stress load  developing a vision problem.  I  can't believe I stayed there after that.

Back in town we picked out new school superintendent. I say we since it is part of my job in town to do that.  We have a sub-committee negotiating  his contract with him.  Once the contract is done he'll give notice to his current employer and we'll see him in the  fall.  He's a town resident with a daughter  in the high school so I'm hoping for good things out of him.

Two diaries ago I noted that my new car was in the shop.  I thought it was a fuel injection problem.  It wasn't.  It was a fuel problem, but  not with the fuel injection.  The last time I  had gotten  gas the people at the filling station apparently gave me diesel.  It had to be the  place near my house that I don't normally use, and I won't be going  back  to that place  again.  The dealership did fix it under warranty.  But really something like that on a car with less than fifteen thousand miles on it.

I was trying to  get caught up  on diaries this morning and saw the pics from Atreides wedding.   First,  congratulations on the nuptials Your Imperial Majesty.  May Heaven look upon you with graciousness, friendship,  and kindness.  Secondly, this is the first time I've seen Mrs Blixco wearing a shirt that wasn't a t-shirt, and it's captured on photograph and posted on the internet.

I think that's about it.  I have a boat load of yeard wark to do.  Really.  I have enough brush to fill a boat, and I need to figure out what to do with it all.  Big yards with no pick-up truck is a damn fool thing to do.  I can and am composting some of it,  and I'll burn some of it in the firebowl, but that still  leaves a small steamship full of other crap.

I almost miss traveling by georgeha (2.00 / 0) #1 Sat May 24, 2008 at 11:01:25 AM EST
it's been over a year since I last went out. It's not that I had great times, but the change in routine made life interesting.

I hate business travel by jimgon (2.00 / 0) #2 Sat May 24, 2008 at 01:42:49 PM EST
You're not there long enough to see  anything, and the  time you are there you spend eight or nine hours in an office.  This last week I worked in a different state every day.

I think the same about the separation - and I dont mean that nastily, I really enjoy my life atm.

Sometimes you just need someone or something to  intervene to provide you a shift from comfort.
