In the spirit of UCB's diary yesterday, I present my own choices.

This search engine

I think that what will be revealed here is that my tastes are not terribly eclectic.  I do listen to a lot of new music, just a lot of it doesn't draw me in.  Perhaps it's just because I'm getting older.

1.  Book of Dreams  - The Steve Miller Band:   I have always been very into the Steve Miller Band and honestly this album is really the height of the band.  Some oddball favorites from it are The Stake and Babes in the Wood.

2.  Now and Zen - Robert Plant:  This is a quintessential album from my teenage days.  I wore the cassette of this album out twice and I still like to listen to it today.  It is slightly overproduced, as was the style in the 80s, but songs like Clean, White, and Neat never fail me.

3.   The Division Bell - Pink Floyd:  While I have certainly listed to Dark Side of the Moon a lot, The Division Bell is really one of my favorite albums.  The only catch is this one has to be played in order for the impact to be felt.  Both myself and Weetabix really dig on this one.

4.  Cowboy Bebop OST 1 - Yoko Kanno:  While I like all three or four soundtrack albums from this anime, if I had to pick one, it would be OST 1.  Fun and different, Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts both do a wonderful job on this jazz and eclectic sound track.

5.  Reflections - Paul Van Dyk:  When ever I need electronica/trance/techno, Paul Van Dyk is the dude I turn to.  I often find it difficult to sort out who does what in this genre, but I have found Van Dyk's Reflections album unique enough to generally be recognizable and its always enjoyable. Great music for writing.

6. The Joshua Tree - U2:  I gotta go with UCB's sentiment on this one.  Overplayed to the point of insanity, but the tracks still get me to tap my toe.  As UCB indicated slightly embarrassing to admit, but then again I was the one shouting lyrics from this album in bars at the time.  Truly a great album, if overplayed like the Book of Dreams.

7.  Ten - Pearl Jam: Many a game of darts was thrown to tracks from this album.  The height of 90's Seattle music, and I dug on it hard.  I still like to listen to this album, although I admit to not being enamored to much of Pearl Jam's later stuff.

8.  Stone Temple Pilots - Stone Temple Pilots:  Classic tracks that I dig on hard like Vaseline and Interstate Love Song.  STP's lyrics didn't make much sense, but I dig on them all the same.  I played this one a lot while killing in the classic game Carmageddon.

9.  Flashback - .38 Special:  I know, I know, more classic rock.  But truth be told, this was part of my teenage sound-track.  The Flashback album is a greatest his compilation with all my favorite .38 Special tracks.  I blew out speakers listening to this album although it has lost some of its luster over the years.

10.  Hellsing RAID - Hellsing OST by Yasushi Ishii :  Another anime soundtrack, but this one rocks.  Nearly entirely instrumental, but full of energy and spirit.  Some of my favorites on this album is "Musical Play Smiling Rebellious Flower" and "The World Without Logos".  Excellent stuff.

Now and Zen by wiredog (4.00 / 1) #1 Thu May 22, 2008 at 10:37:50 AM EST
I always sort of considered his 80's work (including Manic Nirvana) to be sort of an extension of Led Zep. It's part of the same playlists on the iPod. Playlists which started out as mix tapes, then re-recorded to mix cd's, migrated to an mp3 cd, then migrated to the iPod.

Although I have to admit to my shame I started with his later work before moving back to Led Zeppelin.

50 bucks for a freakin' sound track? by ObviousTroll (4.00 / 1) #2 Thu May 22, 2008 at 11:16:58 AM EST
I loved the music on BeBop, I even ripped Tank! from a DVD for my son, but count me out on that one.

Has anybody seen my clue? I know I had it when I came in here.

This link shows more reasonable prices.  I only paid about twenty bucks for it.

was Now and Zen the one that had the song extolling white ripoff soul?

Holy shit batman, I loved that album. White, Clean and Neat made me angry but I loved Ship of Fools.

A very VH1 album.
