'Cause shiznitz be moving out too fast for y'all realz yo!

Aquadork! SUPAHZIPPAH! Netflixing.

The aquarium still has maybe a day of good eating in it for the ottos. Looks like it's time to break out the blanched Zuchini.

The HC plants are beginning their slow creep outward from the places they were initially planted. The microsword looks like it may be having a slight problem, but there are still those new shoots pushing their way up.

The Rasboras went nuts last night after feeding. Gill flaring, fins extended as far as they could get them, side-by-side body shimmies, like what I've seen cichlids do right before a big fight breaks out. With these guys they do that for a few minutes, one of them pops the other in the side, then they split up. So it's not real serious, obviously, but weird to see in fish so tiny. Maybe they're just feeling frisky because nitrates dropped to zero so quickly? No evidence of further spawing, though it appeared this morning there was a lot of activity in the same general area I've seen eggs deposited before.

BREAK

Zippy's fucking up things so hard this week I don't even know where to begin. No boss this week, as he's out playing host at a user conference for one of our vendors. So, Zippy sits around all day, kicks it in the ass for about a half-hour before he leaves, then leaves a trail of destruction for the next morning. Namely, my morning.

I seem to have everyone back to functional, but I still don't have any clue what the hell the Zipmonger did yesterday besides swap out systems without finishing the desktop setups. There will be discussions had today. Yes, there will.

BREAK

Netflix is supposedly going to introduce this revolutionary new thing that sounds like the Apple set top box dealy-o only with rentals only on it. May end up being cool, may not. Mrs. NFB sounds interested in it, but we'll have to see if it sounds worthwhile.

Enough. Got a bitchslapping hand to prep. Laterz.

AppleTV has rentals by wiredog (2.00 / 0) #1 Tue May 20, 2008 at 10:01:39 AM EST
If it played nice with external hard drives I might get one.

It looks like the Netflix box is basically an AppleTV without the ability to have permanent movies stored. Unless I'm totally misunderstanding something.

There are hacks by joh3n (2.00 / 0) #3 Tue May 20, 2008 at 11:40:56 AM EST
that allow just that, using the USB port on the back of the box.  But why bother?  I've got the 1.5 TB upstairs that streams movies to the AppleTV, so why hook anything to it?

The problem with that is by wiredog (2.00 / 0) #4 Tue May 20, 2008 at 11:54:41 AM EST
You have to leave the server running, or turn it on, in order to watch movies. Lots of wasted power, or hassle.

unbox.amazon.com by garlic (2.00 / 0) #6 Tue May 20, 2008 at 01:44:24 PM EST
does movie rentals too. They are a little too pricey compared to the redbox at the grocery store right next to our house though.

it looks like these are "in addition to" whatever plan you have with Netflix, but if you buy the box outright ($100), you can stream however many shows/movies you want to stream without changing your basic plan with Netflix. So, price-wise it's probably alright, if it actually works.
