"Tastes stingy."

Best show ever comes again. Gifting. Rocks. Case study.

The best concert I've ever been to, and one I thought I'd never, ever get to experience again? Dethklok.

Guess who's going on tour this summer?

Guess who just bought tickets to his favoritest venue of all time to see them?

Guess who's still shaking and tearing up at the possibility of seeing them live again?

This is going to be awesome.

(Any other dorks wanting presale tickets, the password on Ticketbastard is "DUNCANHILLS" all strung together all caps.)

BREAK

Now trying to determine the best way to let AFKS know he's going to the previously mentioned show with me. No, it's not a choice. No, it's not something I'm asking him about. No, I won't let him say no.

Maybe I should just tell his wife so she can make plans around it and then kidnap him that day? It's a Saturday, so that'd be pretty easy to do. Hmm.

Maybe I'll pull a Toki on him. "Whys you makes me dos this?" Then, club him in the face with a baseball bat.

BREAK

My rocks shall arrive this evening, so long as UPS doesn't decide they like big heavy boxes well enough to want to keep it an extra day. One step close to the aquarium setup.

Found some pretty cool tiny fish species while searching yesterday that should be comfortable in my little glass box. Pygmy cories, and Chili Rasbora, a member of the so-called "Microrasbora" family. Both tiny, hardy schooling fish that should be able to live comfortably in a somewhat sizable group within a ten gallon. I'd still like to add ottos for algae control, but we'll see about that. They may be too big to go with the micros until they are full grown. Never thought I'd say that of ottos.

Now to get my plant-life nailed down. Probably just ground-cover stuff for a while. Microsword and four leaf clovery stuff in the foreground. See how that does for a bit.

Outside of that, and test kits, I'll be all set as of tonight.

BREAK

You have the option of pissing off two people, leaving seven people indifferent, or pissing off seven people but making those other two people happy. Which path do you chose?

There is no option where all are happy with your decision. All in theory, of course.

Enough for today. Laterz.

So it's gonna be like the Gorillaz tour? Cartoons with a backing band?

Earth First!
(We can strip mine the rest later.)

Sorta/kinda. by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #2 Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 10:48:44 AM EST
The previous tour was full videos for every song hanging above the stage while the real band played under the videos. The lights were kept pretty low on the real band until the last song, where it was just them playing. All music and singing is done live. The in-between songs band-banter clips are pre-recorded. And they did an AMAZING job of synching up the lights to make it feel like you were actually part of the cartoon show if you paid attention to the screens.

What's really gonna be great is that they were using the school's soundsystems on the previous tour. So, if you were lucky and got to see them at Berkley, they sounded incredible. If you got stuck going to them in Vermillion, South Dakota, like me, you got to hear a lot of tinny-tin-tin type sounds. It was still awesome, but that sound system wasn't cut out for that kind of volume. This time around, I'd imagine they're hauling around a GOOD sound system, since they've got Chimaira and Soilent Green coming along for the ride. As much as I'm not a fan of either of those bands, they do play the type of music that needs some serious wattage behind it, so I can't imagine them whimping along with the anemic sound-system used in Vermillion.

I'm very, very excited.

Problem Analysis by FlightTest (2.00 / 0) #3 Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 03:11:31 PM EST
I gotta presume from the way the question is worded that you don't care if you piss off or please any of the nine.

That being the case, pick the option that benefits you the most, keeping in mind that a benefit might be being able to go to someone later and say "I could have done X and pissed you off, but instead I did Y and pissed off this other group of people."

In other words, be sociopathic about it.

I'll consider this a tick in the. . . by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #4 Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 03:58:33 PM EST
"Piss off the fewest" column because it gives you the most opportunity for positive paybacks later.

Depends on the makeup of the groups by FlightTest (2.00 / 0) #8 Thu Apr 17, 2008 at 01:44:34 AM EST
Sure, in general "piss off the fewest" gives you most opportunity, but I can think of situations where it might not lend the largest advantage. For instance, if one of the people is the smaller group is far more easily manipulated than anyone else, or has something you particularly want (note that this may not be related to how much you care about pissing them off), then you could possibly gain additional leverage by being able to say "look, I pissed off this large group of people rather than this small group that you're in when I could have just as easily pissed off your small group".

Sociopathy. It isn't just for MNS anymore. It also isn't in HuSi's dictionary.

Seven versus two by BadDoggie (4.00 / 1) #7 Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 07:18:20 PM EST
Depends on how close to -- and how much I care about -- the seven versus the two. And how shitty any member of either group could make my life.

woof.

OMG WE'RE FUCKED! -- duxup ?

Bastards. by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #12 Thu Apr 17, 2008 at 08:03:14 AM EST
If it's any consolation, I don't see any dates outside the US on our Ticketbastard yet either. Usually Canadidian and Mexicocksian dates show up here, so maybe they haven't gotten around to the non-US dates yet?

Here's the funny thing to me. by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #16 Thu Apr 17, 2008 at 10:33:18 AM EST
You know how the fans are in the cartoon? They'd die for them and tear off body limbs and still screaming, "DETHKLOK!!" Yeah, honestly, you actually end up feeling that way once you've seen them live. I've seen some good shows. Metallica back when they still gave a shit. Believer back when I still gave a shit in a tiny little night club. Disturbed twice, once in a big place, once in a tiny little night club. Pantera and Skid Row in an arena. Suicidal and Danzip opening for borderline giving a shit Metallica in '93 I think it was at an outdoor stadium.. But none of those compare with Dethklok. Not even close.

You know how awesome Dethklok is? The band that opened for them? On the first couple shows of the tour, they were the headliner. Think about what that means. The headliner got bumped to opener on their own tour by a band that's supposedly just a cartoon.

Fuck dude, fly over here if you have to. If I had the money, I'd offer to split ticket cost with you to get you here.

How did that happen, losing the headline act bit?  Must've been some pretty hacked off scens in the dressing rooms...

From what I heard, it was Berkley. by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #18 Thu Apr 17, 2008 at 11:40:32 AM EST
The people at one of those shows stuck around and chanted "GET OFF THE STAGE" to them instead of just leaving when they weren't happy with them. It was a free show, and they'd already gotten to see the band they were there to see, but instead of doing the semi-polite thing and just walking out, they stuck around, chanted, and threw things at them until they stopped playing. Booed off the stage when you're the headline act? Gotta suck.

Then it was decided people would be more polite if Dethklok didn't hype the ever-loving crap out of them before sending "Trail of Dead" out to suck-it-up. Mostly they were right. At our show people just sat and waited patiently for Dethklok to come out while "Trail of Dead" played. I'd imagine had they played second, after the crowd was hyped to the gills by the Dethklok performance, it could have gotten ugly.

I do imagine there was some serious tension between the bands backstage though. As far as I could tell, Trail of Dead just up and left as soon as they were done playing. Their bus wasn't around when we were hanging out with Dethklok after the show. Maybe they just avoided each other the rest of the tour?
