Virus - A resolution.
Portishead live.
Camping.

Virus

Thanks to some excellent help from a not quite so evil canine, I was able to get J's machine virus free without having to wipe and re-install it. There was an infected dll file in the windows directory that was being loaded by something. My professional anti-virus program did not find it, but BD's instructions managed to track down and delete it.
J is very happy that she can go back to using her own computer now.

Thanks to everyone who gave help.

Portishead

Went to see them live on Sunday. It was great.

Camping

Bought a tent yesterday. A very big tent. 8 man tent. It's big, and heavy. I'll have to mow the back lawn now so we can put it up and check that it's water tight. It's as big as a house. Two sleeping pods either side with a big living room in the middle. I can stand upright in it. J wanted it for her dig in the summer, so she can take the kids away for a week, and put up some other people as well.

It was very good by hulver (2.00 / 0) #3 Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 05:41:33 AM EST
Eventually, when they actually came on stage.

There was this bizarre support act on first, with violins, and accordian and trumpet. The first couple of things they played were pretty good, but everything else they played sounded exactly the same.

The main show was really good though. I was right at the front as well, which was excellent. Mixture of new stuff from the new album, and old stuff.

I just wish they'd released the new album before the tour.

Sounds familiar, don't suppose you can remember what they were called?

Album release dates. by Evil Cloaked User (2.00 / 0) #5 Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 05:53:41 AM EST
Yeah, I've got caught by that before. The new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album was due out days after the gig, but if you pre-ordered, they gave you a download link. But that was America only. I got someone in the US office to buy it for me and send me the link. And the mp3 quality was shockingly bad. So having already bought the thing, I felt no remorse when I torrented a much higher quality copy.

Then I went to see Beth Orton 2 years ago and her new album was coming out the following week. The girl that I was bringing to the gig was in HMV a few days before the gig and went up to the counter with an arm-load of CDs she was buying - she's a DJ. When she got to the counter, she spotted the Beth Orton album on display behind the clerk. She knew it wasn't released yet but chanced her arm and just nonchalantly said "Oh, and can I get that one behind you as well? Thanks." Yup, it really is all about social engineering.

didn't like the new album much by MillMan (2.00 / 0) #14 Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 01:07:29 PM EST
but I'll give it a few more listens. Hope they come to the US as well - they're a band I should see.

When I'm imprisoned as an enemy combatant, will you blog about it?

Neener. Neener. Neener.

Not that I'm a fan of Portishead (barely know 'em), but it seems to make yalls completely batty.

Nearly saw them once, which makes it even worse by Evil Cloaked User (2.00 / 0) #17 Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 05:20:18 AM EST
They played The Cork Opera House one time, which is a fantastic venue for an act like that, but I couldn't get out of work.

The new Portishead single is fuckin great by nebbish (2.00 / 0) #7 Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 07:32:19 AM EST
I had a 5 in the morning ecstasy moment to it a few weeks ago.

Apprently their new album is heavily influenced by Sunn 0))) Any metallers out there should try them, mindblowing (and also quite funny) stuff.

Indeed it is by hulver (4.00 / 1) #8 Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 07:42:14 AM EST
They played that live as well.

Though it does remind me of the theme music from Terminator 2.

It does, you're right.

It's also been compared to the opening bars of Blue Monday.
