So this time, I seem to have developed some wierd ability to detect when I am being watched.

In the past few weeks there have been many times I've had a feeling of being watched, and looked up directly toward someone who was looking at me. As before, it seems to be more common on the tube. Again, my hypothesis is that there is some electro-magnetic phenomenon that is perhaps enhancing pre-existing psychic skills.

Haven't had any mind reading incidents recently though.

If they can prove eye contact to be circumstantial by greyshade (4.00 / 1) #1 Thu Apr 10, 2008 at 04:55:04 PM EST
can they sue you for a fake paranormal experience? Or is that one not officially on the books yet?

Jesus Christ. Why do I have to explain everything to you people?

That's not psychic abilities. by nightflameblue (4.00 / 1) #4 Fri Apr 11, 2008 at 09:43:52 AM EST
That's being human.

It's a process we don't fully understand, sure, but it's not psychic. Like when you're driving along and suddenly, for no reason whatsoever, turn your head sharply to the right and see an absolutely gorgeous person of your sexual preference dressed scantily. What told you to look there? Some old sk00l, pre-historic, built-in $sex_partner finder that we really no longer have a use for, aside from the occassionall peep at someone we'll never likely meet.

There's just certain making-a-connection type processes we've got going on in the brain we don't fully understand. Probably something left over from nomadic ways, where running into another human or bunch of humans was an event to be celebrated or feared. A built-in people radar.

Who's to say it's not psychic? by dmg (2.00 / 0) #5 Sun Apr 13, 2008 at 04:21:38 PM EST
I can come up with (far-fetched) explanations for some of them, e.g. maybe I subconciously  caught someone's reflection in glass, and saw them looking at me. Or I could see them from peripheral vision.

But two things stand out that make me tend to discount this.

Firstly in the last couple of weeks its been happening with uncanny frequency like at least once a day, and as I said before, the vast majority of these incidents seem to happen when I am on a tube, which makes me suspect electo-magnetic effects. And secondly, it has happened a couple of times where the person has been behind me, and I've almost had to turn my head 180 degrees to see.

I'd like to think its not a paranormal effect, being almost Randi/Dawkinsesque in my skepticism, but I'm starting to have my doubts.

I doubt it's visual. by nightflameblue (2.00 / 0) #6 Mon Apr 14, 2008 at 06:53:57 AM EST
And maybe it's psychic, but if it is it's psychic on the same level everybody else has.  If this is something new you're just now experiencing, maybe you've been tuning it out for most of your life.

I guess what I'm saying is that people notice each other.  In a crowd.  In the middle of nowhere.  I don't really see anything all that special about what you're describing.
