boy howdy, is it ever!

Welcome to March in Texas.  One day it's 85 and sunny and two days later you wake up and it's 40 degrees and the wind is blowing so hard you can barely open the door to your office.  The footbridge between our building and the parking garage creates a very powerful draft for some reason; I would like to understand the physics behind it but it's a mystery for now.  There is about a quarter-inch gap between the two swinging doors that lead in to the building and when the wind is blowing like it is today it generates the most peculiar whistling roar I've ever heard in real life.

I had about a two hour phone conversation with TRASG0 last night, the first time I'd really talked to him since the wedding in May.  Apparently he'd lost his cell phone and hadn't bothered to replace it until now.  He was also going pretty nuts with his job, working on fixing up his new house, and of course being newly married.  Anyway, he mentioned that I hadn't been diarizing much lately and I said something about how I didn't think people really cared to hear my ramblings about my daily life, or did they really want to hear a whole lot of overwrought crap about my emotional state, so I've been lurking moar.  Anyway, I guess I'll try and write more.

I had my very first ever private voice lesson on Wednesday and I think it went well; hopefully this will be the boost I need to really take my singing "career" to the next level, which in my mind right now means getting more paid gigs in order to finance the voice lessons.

At work, the lead developer for the project I have been the sub-developer for since last summer was transitioned into another position, leaving me with my own office and pretty much all the responsibility for this project.  Whee!  This week has seen much progress made, though, so it's not completely overwhelming.

If you are a gamer, and have neither seen the Battlefield Heroes trailer nor listened to the Penny Arcade podcast for PATA PATA PATA PON, do me a favor: go watch the video, then listen to the podcast and see if you agree at all with Mike about how the first part of the trailer was somehow offensive.  I don't think it's making fun of WWII veterans, I think it's making fun (as Yahtzee from Zero Punctuation does) of the whole WWII video game genre.  Lighten up!  Anyway, I can't wait to play that game.

Game-wise, I'm pretty much 100% committed to grinding my BF2 "character" up to whatever rank gives me all the unlocks, so I haven't had time to finish Okami.  I'm like a WoW addict, except without the social benefits.

Mark your calendars now, G&S fans: I actually managed to snag a small role in this year's Houston Gilbert and Sullivan production of The Yeomen of the Guard.  July 18th, 19th, 20th, 25th, 26th, and 27th.  Same place as always.  Details on the website.  I'm really looking forward to doing this show, not so much because of the part but because of who I know will be there and what the show is: Yeomen is one of my three favorites.

I guess that's enough for now - see you next week!

SWEET! Congrats on breaking into the ranks of HG&S principals! That's no mean feat.

I auditioned for the Austin show (Pirates, I mean, how can you not?), but I haven't heard boo in almost a week. Ah well!

Cool on the lessons, too. Who'd you get?

Curb your enthusiasm, it's just 1st Yeoman.  It's not like I'm a named character.  One solo line, part of a trio, no dialog.  It was 3rd on my list of parts I was interested in.  I think it's just the bone they throw to the best chorus tenor whom they feel sorry for since they'll never cast them in the lead role.  But hey, I'm going to enjoy the hell out of it.  Sorry to hear you haven't heard from the Austin group - you should be an absolute shoe-in there, unless they have a similar seniority policy as HG&S and all the female slots are taken.  Not an unreasonable possibility.  RLOS is probably going to do Pirates again next year, and if they manage to get it over with as early as they did this year, I'll be all over that.

I'm studying with the Bach Choir's main tenor soloist.
