First bicycle commute of the year. Still a few patches of snow on the front lawn, but the roads are all bare and dry with sand on the shoulders. Didn't get killed by cagers. Yet.

Distance (inbound): 24km
Time: 70 minutes
Net Elevation Change: 235m drop

Distance (homebound, return to bus): 5.5km
Time: 15 minutes
Net Elevation Change: 60m drop

Distance (homebound, from Webber bus stop): 1.5km
Time: 10(?) minutes
Net Elevation Change: 70m climb

Overall, I'm in considerably less pain than expected, especially since I didn't bicycle commute at all last year, and gained 20-30 pounds as a consequence. I shall avoid wooden chairs for the next day, though. Perhaps will ride again on Friday if I recover, driving to a conference tomorrow.

On a road bike, with a higher level of physical fitness, the inbound ride took me <60 minutes. All things considered (particularly my waistline), 70 minutes is a respectable time.

Goals:

  • work up to 2-3 bicycle commutes a week by end of March
  • aim towards riding the entire distance home for first time this year by early April
  • lose most of the spare tire by July
  • increase chocolate consumption by July

And here I thought I was worth more than that to you. At least 15, maybe 20 points.

You've shattered by self-confidence now, you big meanie.
