I finally worked out how to get the right values from the MIB, so finally got my script working....

...only to find version 0.10 takes an hour to run when we really want it to complete in 5 minutes...

I think we'll call this one a "prototype" or "proof of concept"....

If I find my brother hasn't paid my cheque₁ into his account tomorrow, shall cheer myself up by upgrading Media Centre again: shall buy another DIMM so it can operate in Dual-Channel mode. Only problem is that, from what I can see Windows XP Home only recognises 3GB, and pairing the existing 2GB will make it 4GB.

Isn't there some package software that can do what you want? There are tons of tools, both free and otherwise that can monitor a router.

All systems (routers and other systems) are monitored, through a mix of Nagios, Cacti, Netcool etc. In fact, a lot of the stuff I write is helper scripts for said monitoring tools.
We're interested in doing a few things that are not available right out of the box.

My MythTV box has recorded multiple inputs - as many as three, two of them HD - with less than 1 GB of RAM since it was created three and a half years ago.

My thoughts are currently headed in this direction....since I now have a spare partition, it may gain a test distribution....
