I actually took notes at work the next day about another foggy trip I had made, but it, well. I tried to remember details and could not. It also reminded me that my goal of eventually visiting every state park in Pennsylvania has been way off track. I blame high gas prices, but I did most of the parks before when gas not cheap and I had the Impala and its piss poor mileage. Laziness maybe.
We had a guy leave today for more money and better career paths. He was emotional. A complete and utter crying mess from 2PM on. He gave his notice about a month ago. He also told his boss and she told her's that he'd stay for $AmountThey'dNeverPay. The word was 'Thanks for the service and good luck at the next job." But no real counteroffer was made. Then today, at 3ish, when he was scheduled to leave, he had a meeting with someone. That someone asked him what he was leaving for. This was a lot lower than what he'd stay with us for. Someone thought that they'd maybe be able to work out something close to that. The dude leaving actually said no, he was gone, making a counteroffer right when he was due to leave was way too late. He finally leaves. AFTER he's been gone for 30 minutes, another someone calls my boss out to the hall. He demands to know if any tried to save the guy leaving. This another someone most assuredly should have a) know an employee was leaving b) what amount would keep him. A few minutes pass. The other someone then comes back and asks for the guy who left's cell number.
I predict he'll be back on Monday. And not at $AmountThey'dNeverPay. They guy's young and this is his first real job. He was actually excited that his salary at the new place would allow him to quit his second job he worked. 20 hours a week. Now they might pay him what he wants. But they've left others go because they think that the rest of us would be jealous of his making 3 times what he would. And he'd be making 3 times what our boss would make. I'd be pissed. I have more experience. Another dude has 10 years of mod_perl work, and he makes only a few dollars more than I do.
I swear to GOD if the GOP actually runs only on TERROR and the WAR, I'm switching parties. For real.
It was funny. NPR had a thing tonight where they asked Huckabee's supposed evangelical 'base' what the various quotes he was making in his speeches came from or referenced. None of them knew that 'a young boy and a smooth small stone could defeat a lot of armor' was about David and Goliath. Another dude claimed that the loaves and fishes quote was in reference to Moses leading the people out of the desert.
The Church of Scientology thinks that 'Anonymous' is the same as the Klan. Holy shit.
Georgia wants to redraw the border with Tennessee so that they can control some water. Um. No.
