"Okay," I said. "I'm waiting for J and J, but we'll be up there soon."
When we got to Wilmington, A and her mom were in her room, but no P and no H. A and her mom didn't know where P was -- he'd apparently been gone "to check on H" for over an hour and they hadn't seen him or heard from him.
It turns out that he had gone up to NICU, found out her release was imminent, and stayed with her, holding her, for the two hours before they finally got her moved. It was the first time he'd gotten to hold her, and he made the most of it. That his wife and mother-in-law might be worried was pretty much irrelevant -- his daughter needed him.
It's incredible to see them together, and she is, truly, the most beautiful baby who has ever lived. She has thick brown hair with light brown highlights and perfect little fingernails (she's already scratched herself). "I had her hair and nails done before she came out," A said. "We wanted to be prepared." She has blue eyes (both her parents have blue eyes), and enormously long toes (she got those from P and me, I think). She wanted to sleep today, but once she got settled, she really didn't care who was holding her. I said that since I was leaving for Boston soon, I needed to get all of the cuddling done that I could.
Eyes open, wondering what that weird contraption is.
Long toeses.
I'm meant to be burping her, but instead, she just snuggled in and went to sleep.
