German class yesterday was rockin'. Proper uni lecture-hall setting full of postgrads. Academic guy with an earring comes in, rattles off a pile of nice, clear hochdeutsch telling us to use the informal mode, goes into some of the philosophy behind grammmar and why it should not be expected to always make sense, covers the basics of words that can and cannot change, and flies through as many topics as it took 6 weeks to cover in my last class. He wraps it up by handing out a few pages of exercises to reinforce the lesson and saying he won't be going any slower than this, he can go faster if we want, and we can ask questions for the next hour or go and this will be the format for the semester. Absolutely fantastic. Though the slightly stunned looking people in the row behind might not agree.
Hello weekend!
