Not much here.

The Good:
  • Dropped a full minute off my running time. 6 miles in 1 hour, 9 minutes.
  • The local grocery store started carrying bison.
  • Got my Latin midterm back marked with a big, fat, red A
  • Wrote a letter to my Grandma
  • My wife finished our taxes (go-go-gadget-capital-loss!)
The Bad:
  • I'm unusually sore from running. I feel more like I did about a month ago than like the past couple of weeks.
  • My stomach hurts. It feels like I ate something spoiled.
  • Gained a pound over last week.
  • Due to the fact that we're still rolling over the capital loss from selling the Suburban Horror House, the brand spanking new capital loss from selling Ye Olde House of Doome affects our return not one lick.
 The Ugly:
  • I looked into a mirror.
  • Seriously. I need the mother of all haircuts. 3 months ago.
The Hopeful:
  • I woke up this morning and lied there on top of my bed luxuriating in the cold air.
  • Life is good.

Haircut by wiredog (2.00 / 0) #1 Sun Feb 17, 2008 at 08:54:14 AM EST
My warm weather haircut is "2 on the side, 4 on the top", which refers to the cutter lengths.

Running. When I was in the Army I could run 5 miles in 35 minutes. Calling cadence.

I was 20 years younger and 70 pounds lighter.

(We can strip mine the rest later.)

... I like to keep a flattop. Problem is that a declining number of barbers know how to trim a proper flattop.

Sometimes, when the mood takes me I opt for one of these. If I can find somewhere during the week, I might got for it again. I need a haircut.

Not that long ago... by ucblockhead (2.00 / 0) #3 Sun Feb 17, 2008 at 03:06:57 PM EST
Six years ago, before my son was born, I'd worked up to 4 miles in 30 minutes. That's at 36. It was also when there was a gym 50 ft from work and I had fewer responsibilities. Now I'm at nine minute miles.

Capital Loss by houser2112 (2.00 / 0) #5 Tue Feb 19, 2008 at 07:47:37 AM EST
Is it possible to "save" the capital loss from YOHoD for after you're done rolling over the loss from SHH?

Not really, but kind of by lm (2.00 / 0) #6 Tue Feb 19, 2008 at 08:27:17 AM EST
With regards to federal taxes, any capital loss over the annual limit can be rolled over for four or so additional years. Suburban Horror House was sold 2 tax years prior to Ye Olde House of Doome. So if I recall the number of years one can carry over a capital loss correctly, there will be two tax years (2010 and 2011) after the capital loss carryover for Suburban Horror House is finished but the loss for Ye Olde House of Doome is still eligible. I tried to get the closing moved one week into the future so that the deal was closed in 2008 rather than 2007. But it was better for all of the other parties (the buyers, my sister, and the real estate broker) to close in 2007 so I didn't have much pull. That would have given me one more year of non-overlap.
