Christmas
By ana (Thu Dec 25, 2008 at 03:17:29 AM EST) Christmas! (all tags)
joy.

Merry Christmas, and happy holidays of whatever other kinds y'all are into.

We're off to Colorado this afternoon. For once, the weather radar is quiet everyplace we'll be going (Manchester, NH -> Midway -> Denver). And we've flown on Christmas Day before; it's relatively relaxed. We used to do it all frenetic, because my choir sang for the morning mass on Christmas Day. No longer. It was kind of fun, but not worth the trouble for the 20 people who show up.

It's hard not to think about the events of last December, but we're working at it. And we've given ourselves and each other permission to not be happy if we're not happy. Keepin it real, yo.

Amazon claimed they "lost" one of the orders for goodies for the nieces & nephew. On the off chance that they might have failed to notice it go out the door, I called my folks (woo! telephone! in my family?) but they hadn't seen it. So we ordered replacement gifts (some of the cool stuff we'd picked out had sold out in the mean time). Only to get an e-mail from Mom to the effect that the package had been delivered. So we have an extra copy of Bone which I'm sure will find a good home. And there'll be four gifts for the 3 kiddies. I hope they can share. Amazon refunded the money for the "lost" order; we e-mailed to tell them it had appeared. I'm not sure, but we might have some free stuff.

I got a chef knife for free out of a deal like that, a couple years ago.

The car that got smashed up before Thanksgiving is still in the shop. They're taking their sweet time with it. At least they agree to fix it for what the insurance company will pay. Would have been useful to have it yesterday, when they were forecasting rain (freezing at dawn, but just rain later) on top of the foot plus of snow on the ground. Turned out to be drizzle, mostly, so the clodhopper boots I wore for my walk to the train, from the train to church, and the homebound trip, were probably overkill. But I got the experience of carrying my dress shoes in a bag, to change into when I arrived.

The local pizza joint does a wonderful job. They were closing at the same time as my train got to the end of the line, so toxicfur went there first. It was still warm by the time we ate it.

Anyway. Happy holidays to all, and we'll see you on the rebound.

Have a good trip. by blixco (2.00 / 0) #1 Thu Dec 25, 2008 at 10:07:30 AM EST
The hotels and roads here are *empty* at the moment, so hopefully your flights will be similar...though i suspect airlines don't fly less than 100 percent capacity any more.
