400 years is not long enough.

Tonight we will all join together, and burn a Catholic in remembrance.

Will you bring some marshmellows?

Isn't tradition grand ? by Phage (4.00 / 1) #2 Wed Nov 05, 2008 at 01:52:42 AM EST
In Aus the fireworks are in July, ostensibly for the Queen's birthday, but are in fact a recreation of the Nov 5 environment as closely as possible.

Coincidentally... by Metatone (2.00 / 0) #4 Wed Nov 05, 2008 at 02:00:20 AM EST

About "V for Vendetta" is that Guy Fawkes seems to have become a kind of libertarian hero for trying to replace an oppressive Protestant monarch with an oppressive Catholic monarch...

We're burning Catholics? by sugar spun (2.00 / 0) #10 Wed Nov 05, 2008 at 05:49:52 AM EST
Awesome. Is lighter fluid an appropriate accoutrement in case of rain, or is that considered unsporting?

Trinity College in Dublin has a rule still on the books where they're permitted to hang one Catholic per year from the campanile. I suspect anyone attempting to make good would get the shortest of shrifts, as in the urban legend of the guy who turned up with sheep to graze in Fellows' Square and was promptly fined for not lodging his sword with the porter on his way in with the sheep.

isn't this sorta by bobdole (2.00 / 0) #12 Wed Nov 05, 2008 at 08:24:26 AM EST
glorifying terrorism. I thought that terrorism was rather disapproved of in this time and age...

More of this sort of thing! by Vulch (2.00 / 0) #13 Wed Nov 05, 2008 at 09:18:53 AM EST
Just the opposite. The terrsts were caught, made full and free confession of their crimes as a result of some completely legal methods of questioning, and were appropriately punished.
