It's been a good day.

This is being posted from my own computer.  Awesomeness.

I was pretty sure my power supply went out on me since I've been getting warnings from my video card intermittently for weeks that it wasn't getting enough power and then, out of nowhere, it all just shuts off.  No weirdness, no operational issues, just turns off like someone hit the switch.  Problem is that, well, I'm a little repair shy since the last time I worked on a computer I lost Welsh Girl's background work on her book and fucked up my own at the same time.  But if I don't do anything, I'll never have a working computer again AND I'll be afraid of fucking it and other things up from now until the end of time.

I went to the parts store to get a power supply.  I was chatting with the guy working there, telling him what was up and he said that if I had the box with me, he had a tester to check the supply.  I didn't but I live 10 minutes away so I got it and came back to the store mos riki-tik.  He ogled my computer for a while (even I didn't know how awesome it was) and then hit it with the tester.  Prognosis correct.  Dead power supply.  Unfortunately, he didn't sell anything like what I needed but he did mention CompUSA going out of business sales.  Another 10 minutes and I was at CompUSA.  Got a 650 watt power supply, replacing the dead 550 watt, making a point to get the one without the stupid, stupid blue lighting for 40% off.  Got home, pulled the old one out, put the new one in and Robert was your mother's brother.  Lazarus II (successor to my old computer Lazarus) lit up like a silicon god.  Celebration was had in the Satrapic Household.

After lunch, Welsh Girl and I went to go see my  adopted sister (mentioned before in a few diaries).  You see, she's been pregnant for quite a while and they induced her Friday night.  Welsh Girl and I along with both her and her husband's families were there in time to see the new little girl that came from her loins.  Welsh Girl and I were actually lucky enough to be the first ones to actually have an audience with the child because while grandparents were visiting with her, the baby was getting tests and what not.  The old folks were gone and we were there when the tests were done.  Today, we went back to visit for a while.

I will say this much for the little one.  I have been told that I have the softest hands that most people have ever seen, but when I touched that baby's cheek, it was so soft that I literally couldn't feel it.  I could only tell I was actually making contact because I could see the skin crease under my touch.  I don't think I've ever seen that before in my life.

And, of course, Welsh Girl is completely in fluttering ovary mode.  Not that she hasn't been for quite a while for other reasons, but especially now.  Every time she holds the girl, you can see it in her eyes or hear it in her voice.  And that's cool with me.

Oh, and not only is Welsh Girl's new job satisfactory to her, but she quit her old one Friday night.  You see, her old job was as a checker in an upscale grocery store, a great job if you have to go to school, but not so great when you get older.  She decided to keep the job for a while to make extra cash for the wedding.  But with her new salary, we don't need it.  So she decided to give them 2 weeks notice, but that would mean working weekends for the next few weeks on top of the new job and some evenings if she couldn't get someone else to take the shifts.  Friday night, on finding out about the inducement and faced with the prospect of having to be at the job in 30 minutes, called in and just quit.  And good for her.  It needed to be done.  And now we have weekends to spend together again.

To sum up: computer works, Uncle Atreides, Welsh Girl's free.

Awesome.

And that is all.
