Work.
Haircut.
Shopping.
Stuff

Well.2nd dude gave his notice today.  He was upset, crying at one point.  He's an alright guy, just pegs his self worth to his work I guess.  He knew that there would be no serious counteroffer, but when that actually did  not happen, I guess, well this was his first real job and it sucks to realize that we're basically just resources.  He's got a new job with a mega-corporation so I hope he doesn't think that this job was just a fluke.  When I started there were 5 developers.  Now there are two.  I might, might get  a dollar raise so they can hire two more people but I doubt it. We're in an odd situtation too, because there's not much work, but there is some work.  With just the two of us, if something new comes in it's gonna suck.  MInor text changes will be okay.  New development will not.  I'm on a major project.  The dude who is leaving was on one.  I get that one as well, since I know PHP and the other guy left refuses to do anything but Perl work.  So he'll get all the new & interesting shit and I'll get Drupal and TikiWiki.

I was finally able to get my hair cut tonight.  Right at closing too.  Well 30 minutes before.  Two hotties and an older not so hottie, who while I was there for a total of 15 minutes was gossiping about 5 different things.  The two hotties did not seem too interested.  The gal who vut my hair must have had some hand cream on or something because my hands smell like girly hand lotion.  And I rubbed my eye and wow.  Sheesh.

I really shouldn't shop without eating first.  Oh well, not too bad of a trip I suppose.  I did get a dozen organic cage free brown eggs.  They better taste good.  I really wish that more food had less antibiotics in it.

Dating.  Yeah should work on that.

He thought that they cared if he was an employee or not.  Even though all the signs were there that even though they're a family owned business they are in fact just a business.

Go into your boss' office, tell him that you would rather be doing Perl as well, but you'll make the sacrifice for the team to work with PHP.

Then ask for a 20% raise.

yeah.  No.  That's been tried before.  The only way I'm making 20% is by leaving.  Sure they're hurting now, with just 2 people, but they'll pull in a few people from tech support, and all will be well.

ha.

My boss's boss told us that if we really had wanted better wages we should have negotiated better when we were hired.  Which is a true statement.  Of course I did ask for more, I did ask for re-location.  I got neither.  But it was either stay in 411, or get a job in IT again.

411 sucks.

The dude who just gave notice was told when he was hired that the market was flooded and he was getting the highest salary in the region.  He believed them I guess.  But he's gone.  And soon I hope I'll be gone and they can do whatever they want

Run away.... by ShadowNode (2.00 / 0) #5 Mon Jan 14, 2008 at 05:22:59 AM EST
The ship is sinking.

My company's probably not any better off, but at least they're paying me well while they flounder.
