I obviously don't drink often, because the drinking i did yesterday makes me feel as though i killed a LOT of brain cells.

attn: PS2 owning individuals, i need game suggestions.

we made punch, it was the loaded-but-tastes-like-koolaid kind, and it was awesome. i'm paying for it today though.

slept in a stupid position on a couch covered in dog hair, so i woke up with a sore neck and a sinus headache from the allergies. after some toast and some water, i took a shower to wash the drunk off and then went out for breakfast, where i chose my meal specifically for what it might do to my tummy. i ended up with eggs, toast, and hashbrowns.

then we went to get me some pepto, then to the mall to shop for some more work-suitable clothes that fit me (including a really sexy skirt). i found some cute stuff. then i tried to find some more bras, and failed miserably. we then came home, and nick made me some soup and gatorade and tucked me into bed, because i was sleepy but hungry. i feel a hell of a lot better now. i started a load of dishes, and i should have done some laundry, but i can work on that tomorrow instead.

right now i'm putting an ice pack on my hand (jammed my knuckles on the edge of the cupboard as i put dishes away, drew blood and everything), examining the bruise near my armpit (got into a car while drunk (sober driver!) and hit my arm on the door) and getting ready to make myself some noodles. i should try to get nick out of bed but i already fear he's going to be unable to sleep later, so i might as well just let him be.

here's the PS2 part. we got one a couple weeks back, used, so that we could play guitar hero whenever we want. so we had that and a Need For Speed. today we got (used) GTA:SA and Tony Hawk 3, but i still want some other stuff. what i'm looking for is this: a game with a plot and an objective, but something that's fun to play, not too in-depth, and fairly simple. final fantasy, for instance, is too in-depth. keep in mind, i suck at video games. i just want something i can play that has a point. please suggest stuff. thanks.

Shadow is absolutely gorgeous. by ObviousTroll (2.00 / 0) #17 Wed Sep 05, 2007 at 02:20:10 PM EST
It's a real genre crosser - somewhere between a puzzle game and a 3rd person shooter, with a romantic plot and better graphics than you think the PS2 can produce.

but, yeah, I think Ico comes in a close second to it's semi-sequel.

initial report: by LilFlightTest (4.00 / 1) #26 Tue Sep 11, 2007 at 12:20:22 AM EST
i am really, really not a game player. it's taking me a considerable amount of time to not be totally uncoordinated on the controls, especially steering the horse. however, it's getting easier, it's not nearly as hard for me to do things like, say, climbing. i've only killed the first one, and died about a dozen times in the process, mostly because figuring out the controls is hard (for me). however, i'm still pretty engaged in it, haven't gotten overly frustrated yet (once my backseat game player stopped picking on me), and nick had to tell me it was bedtime to make me stop playing.

initial verdict: not incredibly complex, it does a great job with the initial teaching of maneuvers. it gives time to develop the skills you'll need, rather than expecting you to just have them. i feel like this is something i can actually do. excellent recommendation on your part.

Duh! I believe GT3 is for PS2. I have GT2 and GT4 for the PS1 and PS3 respectively.

GT:HD is for PS3.

And I second the Katamari Damacy/We Love Katamari approbation.

This is an unbelievable driving, car collecting game. It is a not-so-hot racing game (I seem to recall you mention going to races).

And what would you recommend by greyrat (2.00 / 0) #16 Wed Sep 05, 2007 at 07:47:12 AM EST
as a pure racing game?

No idea. I'm new to PS2s, to. by wumpus (2.00 / 0) #20 Wed Sep 05, 2007 at 06:51:17 PM EST
I liked sports car GT for PCs, but don't really follow racing. I've heard that there are followups on that, done by a team that did a total conversion, followed by a couple of professional games.

Don't ask me what they guy at the game store thought when I bought GT4 (in June?) but couldn't play it because I was used to my wheel (my USB wheel for my PC works on the PS2, just lucky I guess). I suspect he's met a few other PC game refugees since then.

The two Katamari games are definitely two that I would suggest to anyone buying a PS2.

+1 really sexy skirt! by vorheesleatherface (4.00 / 1) #7 Tue Sep 04, 2007 at 11:32:32 AM EST
The best way I've found to handle hangovers is thusly; As a preemptive measure take 2 excederin and pound a bottle of water before going to sleep. When you wake up, drink another bottle of water, eat a little food, and go back to sleep. The longer you put off going back to sleep (without your neck cocked off in a bad place), the longer you have to feel the hangover. The more water and sleep, the easier life is. Oh, and not drinking enough alohol to kill an elephant is always a good rule.

Rachet & Clank by BaconAndWaffles (2.00 / 0) #9 Tue Sep 04, 2007 at 12:27:37 PM EST
I am a huge fan of the R&C series.  It started as a platformer and has morphed into more of a shooter, but is still fun.  The second one is my favorite, but you really can't go wrong with any of the first three.

Katamari Damacy for the PS2... by atreides (4.00 / 1) #12 Tue Sep 04, 2007 at 02:57:41 PM EST
Culdcept is pretty cool too, but once you've played Katamari, you'll never quit...

He sails from world to world in a flying tomb, serving gods who eat hope.

Katamari, of course. by dn (2.00 / 0) #14 Wed Sep 05, 2007 at 02:56:52 AM EST
The controls are tricksy, though. You have to use both analog sticks at once. My roommate never got the hang of it.

I'm really fond of the first three Spyro the Dragon games. (IIRC a different company did the later games, some of which were not so great.) They're technically PS/1 games, but ought to work on the PS/2. The little dragon is cute, the controls are fairly easy, there are simple stories behind the games, and you can skip most of the hard parts.

Psychonauts is intricate and a lot of work, but has a solid story and the most mind blowing worlds I've ever seen. Seriously, one level looks painted on black velvet and lit by blacklights, there's a space warped town where the streets bend up into the sky and buildings are sticking out sideways overhead, etc. It is absolutely deranged.

Because I worked on it (but am not in the credits, so don't buy it, rent it, or shop lift it).

And because if you don't you won't know what a stupid hoplaalaa the media censorship frenzy is.
