Not really new news, but I know all of the readers of this space can barely sleep at night because of all the tossing and turning caused by wondering what sort of bicycle makes one the least likely to get struck by lightning while cycling in the mountains through a thunderstorm?

More of life's questions answered inside.

But other questions abound. For example, what should one do if one is a mom and one's daughter get's robbed? The obvious answer is to run the bastard over! No?

Would you try to steal a news truck if the opportunity presented itself? Personally, I want a system like the truck has, the culprit ``attempted to drive away in the van, but it shut down automatically''. So how did the van know that a would be thief was behind the wheel rather than an intrepid reporter?

Obama is continuing to grow on me. At this point, I think two possible face-offs would be really entertaining. Obama v. Thompson is one. Both are smooth-talking master rhetoricians. Gore v. Giuliani would be another. Oh. My. Sparks. Would. Fly. And if you're not going to vote for a president of the most powerful country in the free world based entirely on entertainment value, just what should you use for a criterion?

Ohioans are nothing if not inventive. Have you have leftover catfish bait and not known what to do with it? Well, in Ohio we know what to do with it. Just add vinegar to catfish bait and - voila! - fake heroin.

Bicycles for coffee growers improve the flavor of each cup You won't get to that bit until near the end of article. But it occurred to me that these distributors are asking these poor coffee farmers to risk certain death due to lightning strikes while riding these bicycles on mountains.

It is no surprise that often ``accessible'' places of business are hostile to wheelchair users. I run into this crap all the time when out with my wife. It isn't uncommon for there to only be one or two tables with enough clearance for my wife's wheel chair to fit.

I'm glad that it's finally coming out that there was no shortage of conservatives opposing Bush's imperial presidency from the get-go. Goldsmith's new book looks telling. According to him Addington said ``The president has already decided that terrorists do not receive Geneva Convention protections; You cannot question his decision''. Goldsmith didn't like that one bit. Towards the end this bit really puts it into perspective, ``Goldsmith, Comey, Mueller and other Justice Department officials were prepared to resign en masse if the White House implemented the program over their objections.'' The biggest insight I gained from this article is that Alberto Gonzalez is toast.

That is all the news that I see fit to regurgitate today.

When the revolution comes, it's going to be nativists like you that are first up against the wall.

PS: Burglarize is in HuSi's spell check dictionary.

It's also in the OED.

Have you ever spoken to a police officer? by ambrosen (2.00 / 0) #5 Fri Sep 14, 2007 at 08:15:55 AM EST
I would have written the subject line in Police-officerese, but it simply wouldn't have fit on the page.

the money shot about bicycles by lm (4.00 / 0) #3 Fri Sep 14, 2007 at 07:21:56 AM EST
``The question about the bikes reflects a widely believed myth, namely that metal, being a good conductor of electricity, attracts lightning. But it doesn't; the chances of an object's being struck have practically nothing to do with what it's made out of. ... So the bad idea is being out on a mountain ridge in a thunderstorm at all; it really doesn't matter what kind of bike you're sitting on.''
