Mrs. Discordia is lucky; she gets IV valium and fentanyl.

Mrs. Discordia is unlucky; she gets her malformed fetus surgically removed.

The surgery went fine.  She's getting some well-deserved rest.

The good doctor (a D&E specialist) reported a fist-sized blood clot in her uterus.  Very unusual and potentially pregnancy-terminating in and of itself.

As for the cystic hygroma, it seems to have progressed and consists of roughly 50% of the physical volume of the fetus.  So, what with that and the blood clot, there is no fkn way this would have gone to term.

This makes me feel better.

This also makes me want to bawl like the pathetic ass that I am.

I think I'll save it for when I'm not in the waiting-room cyber cafe, however.

That's an awful thing to have to go through, and regardless of what the doctor found, your grief is understandable. I'm thinking about you both.

That this happened to you and your wife.  All my best.

It is a tough road. by muchagecko (4.00 / 0) #3 Thu Sep 13, 2007 at 02:21:09 PM EST
If you'd planned this pregnancy, know that chances look good (no increased risk for cystic hygroma), the next time. Thinking of the next time is probably hard now, but this will pass.

Take care.
