As in a long list of them.

I'm shorter on free time than I typically am right now (outside of theatrical production periods or major holidays), due to a number of factors.  I'm deep into a major project at work.  I'm still exercising almost every day.  I'm spending at least seven hours a week singing in one choir or another.  I've been popping up to Austin on weekends a lot, for various reasons.  I've got a lot of friends to spend time with, which is awesome.  In general I'm happiest when I'm with other people and have stuff to do, so I'm very happy right now.

That being said, I've got a list of things that I want to get done, all of which are whole-weekend type things, if not more, and it's slightly frustrating that I don't have more time to get them done.  For whatever reason, I feel like listing them out here this morning.  So here goes:

Rebuilding my music library
Remember the great purge?  For the most part I haven't missed most of my old pirated IP, but there is the occasional pang of loss for one song or another.  Some things can be accomplished by just ordering a whole bunch of CDs from Amazon, which is my preference since I dislike paying full price for compressed audio a la iTunes, but in the case of single songs I can make the exception.

Getting more photos up online
I guess this is pretty self-explanatory.  Flickr and Facebook have kind of obviated the need for me to maintain my own website of photography, although I still would like to have my own custom site at some point.  Thanks to buttercup's generosity I have a Flickr Pro account so I should really start doing more with that.

Getting more photos up on my walls
This actually falls under the more general umbrella of wanting to do more decorating in general, since I'm no longer champing at the bit to get out of my apartment and it would be nice if it didn't look quite so much like a college student's.  This is the sort of thing I tend to wait for fall/winter to do, just because it's more pleasant when it's cooler, but I can start planning now.  Anyway, my current wall photograph collection is aging and not especially representative.  The problem is that most of my favorites are of people, most of whom aren't relatives, and having them up on my walls is a little weird.  So, maybe I need to get out and shoot more landscapes.  That's another project in and of itself.

Finish photo scanning
Related to the above is to once and for all finish scanning and organizing my old negatives and slides.  I'm done, I believe, with the color stuff.  I just have a little 35mm black and white to do.

Get a keyboard
One more home arranging/decorating task is to figure out some way of getting a decent keyboard (or digital piano, really...the only reason I don't want a real piano is the pain of trying to move it into a second-floor apartment) in there.  I can use it to help learn vocal stuff, but I also just like playing piano when I have access to one.  Right now there is just no place for it to live that I can see, but it's important enough that I can consider other rearrangements.

I guess that's enough!

The problem with dumping old music... by ObviousTroll (4.00 / 1) #1 Wed Sep 12, 2007 at 12:56:16 PM EST
I finally got rid of all our old LPs, since I'm going all hi-tech with a soundbridge and all, only to realize that even some of my late-80's pop-rock albums are unavailable on CD, let alone iTunes.

Pisses me the hell off, let me tell you. Whats lawful-good schmuck like me supposed to do?

Psst. Hey, buddy, know where I can score some TimBuk3?

another project would be to rip all my vinyl to digial, so I can actually listen to it in the ways I listen to music these days.

Yeah, I planned to do that project for years by ObviousTroll (2.00 / 0) #5 Thu Sep 13, 2007 at 07:36:30 AM EST
but it required that I actually buy a turntable since my brother took mine years ago.

They sell turntables that go straight to USB; I meant to get one for the longest time, but I came to the conclusion that it was never going to happen.

Timbuk 3 is on iTunes by wiredog (2.00 / 0) #3 Wed Sep 12, 2007 at 03:12:00 PM EST
I even have a (legal) copy of "Future's so bright" on my iPod.

iTunes is pretty good on 80's stuff. They even have "Sausalito Summer Nights".

I don't know what iTunes store *you* go to... by ObviousTroll (2.00 / 0) #4 Thu Sep 13, 2007 at 07:34:49 AM EST
But if I search for "timbuk3" all I see is a single album released in 2006 called "stand still" which doesn't even have the same band members. (The original couple divorced.). If I search for "timbuk 3" I get a greatest hits album which utterly fails to include such classics as "Sample the Dog".

Didn't say it was deep cuts by wiredog (2.00 / 0) #6 Thu Sep 13, 2007 at 12:59:12 PM EST
Timbuk 3 did more than one tune?

Heh. They were the perfect late-80's college band. by ObviousTroll (2.00 / 0) #7 Mon Sep 17, 2007 at 04:10:27 PM EST
Their songs were smart, funny and astonishingly bitter.

I've done lots of research,
it may be just hype,
But the latest findings cause me to tremble.
They catagorize us into four basic types,
By which of the Three Stooges we most closely resemble.
