I wrote an entry a few days ago, planning another one in a few days. I turn around and a couple weeks have passed? What the hell?

I'm starting to get a little introspective lately. You see, birthday #34 is next month and I'm starting to get a little weird about it. Yes, I know... All the rest of you elderly infidels mock my angst. I'm so emo. Whatever. Besides, those of you who have followed this space long enough probably know what else that means. Actually, you probably don't because why would any of you have made the connection, but you'll know it when you see it.

Said birthday coincided with ACL Fest. Wish I could say I was excited about it, but I'm not really this year. A handful of acts I want to see but the scheduling overlaps make it hard to see all of them. And I don't care if it's Dylan, those tickets weren't worth it this year. Bonnaroo's lineup was so much better.

Played game 8 of 9 in my 40K campaign this weekend against the player in first place. Went in knowing I was going to lose since I was defending two separate positions against an opponent with 10 percent more forces than me. Came out with a more than solid victory. I fucked him up. Bad. Hell, I laid such a hurt on him that even if I gave him both positions, I would have still won by a hair. And now the last battle of the campaign looms. If I win, I win the campaign. If I lose, I tie for third place. This is where the chips are down and crap...

Neither Welsh Girl nor I have done much around the house this week so Chore Wars has merely sat for a bit. But she did a push last night and now there's stuff in the board for this week. Guess I'll have to grind vacuum cleaner tonight. :) Actually, if I wanted to game the chores, the bathtubs need cleaning and if I get out the steam blaster to get into the heavy duty crud, I can rack up some serious points in the bathrooms alone.

Watching the last season of B5 now. Remembering how much I don't care for Byron... I see what they were trying to do with him [Stacky, don't read this] and if Ivanova were running the station as she was supposed to, he would have made a lot more sense the way he was but he's still annoying as hell. I can't wait for him to die singing Cum Bye Ya. That should be the fate of all who sing Cum Bye Ya. And when I'm done with B5, I'm going to my recently acquired box set of Dead Like Me.

My boss is in his boss' office discussing penis enlargement. Yes, it is a spam related conversation.

That's about it. I am so boring right now. That and I just found out Leona Helmsley just died yesterday. Lovely.

That, for good or for ill, is all.

the attempt to replace Ivanova with Lockley just didn't work, and in the end, just made it obvious that a ham-handed replacement of one for the other had been attempted. They should have never had the Lockley character at all. Better yet, they should have paid the actress what she wanted.

They couldn't quite do that... by atreides (2.00 / 0) #3 Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 02:21:55 PM EST
From what I understand, this is what happened. Claudia wanted to be be free to do work in some upcoming movies. She talked to JMS who said that it shouldn't be a problem since he can write her out of episodes filmed when she would be gone. She (and her agent) asked for guarantees JMS couldn't give and TNT wouldn't give. Since the guarantees weren't there, she had to go to do the things she needed to do. If it were just her and JMS, a middle ground could have been reached but TNT kinda sucked and screwed things over once they got their hands in B5.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that a big sticking point was that the male actors all earned more than her.

Cleanin' the bathroom by vorheesleatherface (2.00 / 0) #2 Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 02:20:11 PM EST
If W girl is anything like my Little Woman, the more house chores I do, and the less she has to do, the more likely she'll be in the mood fo some lovin'. I say unto thee, drinka pot of coffee, clean the whole fucking house, and reap your rewards my friend. Couple the house cleaning with a gift and you'll not just get lucky, you'll have surplus brownie points for a little while. Magical it is. There's nothing wrong with using a reward system. Matter of fact, since your birthday is coming up, you should be keeping a nice little red bow in a hidden but convenient place at home. When she asks you what you want for your birthday, hand her the bow and smile.

Welsh Girl doesn't work that way. by atreides (2.00 / 0) #4 Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 02:28:38 PM EST
Doing good things or bad things (unless they're over the top in either direction) are neither a guarantee of nor a bar to getting nookie. As for surplus brownie points, I have those in both spades and no trump. She knows how sweet I am. She also knows that I'm already kicking her ass at Chore Wars and we started playing because she was convinced that I didn't do as much as she did around the house. Turns out that I do more, I just do the big dirty serious jobs instead of the everyday straightening type stuff. Goes back to the idea that guys are better at cleaning and women are better at straightening...

I understand. by vorheesleatherface (2.00 / 0) #5 Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 03:36:30 PM EST
I'd probably feel like I had something to prove where it ever eluded that I was slacking. Chore Wars is a good idea. I may hold onto that one and use it in the future. The next time there is any question about who does more, I declare Chore War! And I think you're right about the straightening vs. cleaning.

a show that was cancelled before its time, IMO.  I enjoyed watching it

Hell yes... by atreides (2.00 / 0) #9 Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 08:06:18 PM EST
...though I hear that a direct to DVD release is in the works and if it does really well, who knows...
