Resumes Dispatched: 81
Lottery Tickets Purchased: 3
Gub'mint Checks Received: 1

As soon as the number of lottery tickets purchased equals the number of jobs applied to I'll have to shoot myself in the head.

Last week I did get an in-person interview.  It was in Boston.  The interview itself went well. They seemed to like me.  I sent a thank you email to the HR rep who replied that they would  get in touch with me with a decision later.  So I know I didn't blow the interview.  Now it's up to other people they interview.  We'll see if I win the prize shortly, since  they want to fill the position by September.

The only other movement I've  had is with  a staffing company.  I  went in for a pre-interview before  they would start shopping my resume.  They submitted my resume to a job that I know I can do because it's almost the same as the one I just left.  They're supposed to hear from the hiring company about the list  of people they want to interview.  That would be  a six month contract.  So tomorrow I'll follow up on that to find  out if I make it  to the next round.

That's it  on the job hunting front for now.  Speaking of working though, this is  the first time since  I started working that  I'm not working on my birthday with the exception of those years that my birthday fell on the weekend.  I'm  thirty-six and unemployed.  Nice mark for the beginning of middle-age.

On Friday we tried out Redbox for a couple recent releases.  It's a $1 a night.   Can't beat that.   They do only have about thirty movies available, but they're  mostly recent release.   We rented "300" and "Premonition".  Both good movies, but "Premonition" was a typicals Sandra Bullock chick movie with plot problems.  "300" was a rocking little action flick, especially if your a D&D nerd.

The rest of the weekend was spent doing some house work.  My neighbor came over and we pulled down the back gutter and the soffit.   Whoever put the gutter  up screwed it into some molding.  Since the gutter hadn't been cleaned in like forever it pulled the molding away from the house and started to rot out the gutter.  We put up some new wood for the soffit.  My wife and  I primed it today in preperation for painting shortly.  My neighbor and I will put the gutter back  before long.

My neighbor also seems to love to prune trees.  We have a maple that was planted too close to the house and never pruned.  So the branches close to the house were growing  over the roof.   My neighbor proceeded to prune a good section of the tree.  When the wood dries out I'll  have a good amount of  firewood  for the fire pit next spring.

It took a while to get to know the neighbor for no particular reason.  Mainly I guess because I was always working or depressed from working and sulking in the house.   So we've started spending some time  hanging out.  It's nice to have a neighbor who I can be friends with.  Football season this year should be a lot better too.  I've said it  before I got luck with  this house.  Now I just need to find a job so that  I can continue living here.

Last thing going on is that I just got my temporary crown for  the tooth I broke.  This has been one of the most painful experiences of my life.  It's a pain that  keeps  on giving.  First there was the  pain of the broken tooth.   Then there was the pain of the tooth lengthening which is misnamed since it's actually a reshaping of the  gum around the root.  Then there's the temporary crown.   Next comes the permanent crown.  Not only painful, but expensive.  I'm doing COBRA for healthcare coverage while I'm unemployed, and they're messing around  with paying the  dental bills for this.   So  far I'm about $800 out of pocket with another $1600 waiting to post against insurance.

36 isn't the beginning of middle age, that's still young, why, I'm 41 and I'm not middle aged.

There is no way that I'm that close to middle-aged.

Thirty-six by jimgon (2.00 / 0) #6 Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 09:00:41 AM EST
I have clear memories of one thing was I was eighteen.  Well, more than one, but one that comes in handy at the moment.  I have a friend who  when I was eighteen was thirty-six.  Good lord he was old.

Also, I figure that I'm going to die sometime around 67.  So this my friend is middle age.

By the spring they should be dried out  and burnable.  The biggest limbs were about five inches in diameter.

COBRA dental buggered me by LinDze (4.00 / 1) #4 Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 05:02:06 AM EST
They ended up claiming that i was only covered for cleanings and "routine checkups". So the dentist billed them ~$150 and then I got two payments of $600 for the rest of my crown.

What I'm thinking by jimgon (2.00 / 0) #8 Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 09:05:07 AM EST
Is that they think I'm sneaking something into an insurance that I know I  won't have for much longer.  The problem is that  my tooth was broken before I got  canned.  The dentist has a record of my visit two weeks before the firing.

The hard part is over. by vorheesleatherface (4.00 / 1) #5 Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 08:06:46 AM EST
Yanking the temporary and glueing the permanent crown in only stings a little for a second. It's by far the easiest part.

I was lying in that chair and experiencing increasing levels of pain and thinking how much  fun the next round  was going to be.
