Mom is in much better shape than I was worried she might be, based on Dad's request that I stick around for another week after they get home, so that somebody could be around while he ran errands. She has progressed more rapidly than they expected. She's still not up to going out shopping, driving or working yet, but she can get around the house on her own, and is in good spirits. Dad is also much happier now that they are home and the big step of getting here is behind them...there's still a lot of rehab work to be done, but they are home.
The first thing Dad and I did after they got home around 5pm and Mom was settled comfortably was to have me drive him over to the car dealership to replace the car that got totaled, an '05 Ford Freestyle, with an '08 Ford Taurus X. Same vehicle basically, except that they gave it a bigger engine and a six-speed automatic instead of the CVT. The transaction took a loooong time...after Dad was sure he was getting the car, I left to go get dinner...he didn't get back until about 9pm. Ouch.
Before that on Saturday, I had a fun brunch with Jen, in town for house work and a church audition, at Kerbey Lane (Guadalupe edition), where somebody had graffitied "For Empire" under the "For Honor...For Country" US Marines billboard in the parking lot. I agreed with Jen's assessment...I don't necessarily agree with the sentiment, but it's a lot more clever than "Dubya Sucks!". Whoever put that billboard there should have known better.
On Friday after work I went to a party down in Buda where I met about six members of the Austin Gilbert and Sullivan Society's Ruddygore cast, so right away I had an in and had a great time, especially when the karaoke machine came out.
